Can anyone give me a quantifiable difference between a continuous rocker and three-stage rocker in terms of height?
I know there is no exact answer...lots of variables...but in general.
For someone who rides about once of week, almost w2w jumps, and 3 feet of air.
Is switching to a three stage going to add a few inches or a couple feet? |

No, if anything with where you're at switching will just throw you off or you won't even notice a difference at all and you just wasted $300 on a board you don't need. Better to just focus on learning how to really boost on your continuous board then later on if you feel like you want a little more loftier of a kick you can give one a try and see how you like it. |

Yep! 100% Agreed. Don't let hype fool you. The big majority of what you're going to get out of a board is technique, not the rocker line. |

Hey,
I appreciate you all weighing in and saving me money.
Just kind of curious the amount of air each of you can get and tricks you can do?
I have a bunch of friends (5-6 of us) that go out all the time (1-2x weekly) for the past two years. Everyone has gotten pretty good, but no one can seem to get more air than 2-3 feet. We watch videos, try to hold the edge, a few guys bought new boards, but nothing seems to have much of an affect. Any other advice? |

Post a video of yourself riding. Will probably help much more than any new board you can buy.
Or go to a camp. _________________ FlyZone Wakeboarding Costa Rica |

The size of the rocker will have more of an impact on total height than the 3-stage vs continuous. Guys like Shaun Murray still ride continuous and go bigger than anyone else. The difference is trajectory. Continuous will launch you up and out, 3-stage will be straighter - up and down.
For someone who's not going w2w yet, continuous will be better because it is more forgiving on timing. 3-stage you have to time the jump more accurately.
For learning I'd recommend buying the DVDs "The Book" on wakeboarding. It has detailed instructions from getting out of the water all the way through Mobes I believe. At least 6 years worth of progression in one video set. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

Pretty funny.
I really appreciate all the advice. Looked into "The Book" and Adam Fields wakeboard camp. I'll post a video here in a few weeks next time we go out. |

I'm a strong rider and I like to think I can boost it pretty good when I am in the mood.
Continuous vs 3 stage is just a war of words. There are "continuos" boards that are slow and "3 stage" boards that are fast. And that is what we are really talking about--drag. More drag can equal more pop if you dig deep at the base of the wake, but that is not the best plan for all styles of riders.
Moderation is the best formula for most every rider. I switch between 3 stage and continuos all of the time, but in reality the boards I ride are all in the middle and there is not much difference in the rocker lines even though the marketing would lead you to believe there is.
There are extreme 3 stage examples, but I have never seen a developing rider ride one well. I can't ride one well. _________________ "Captain of Her Heart"

Do you use a tower or a regular ski hook? that will have a major effect on the air you are getting |
