Ho Ho Ho, Merry Signing Day.
May all your classes be filled with star studded recruits, and no problems with academic admissions....though we know that's not an issue in the SEC, SEC, SEC.
Washington is looking to have the best class under Sark though missing some badly needed OL recruits. If we hang on to Daeshon Hall this will be one lights out defensive class. _________________

based on the last post from JT, Texas will have to rely on actually coaching kids up again. We are screwed. _________________ Work SUX! |

i don't follow recruiting, but it sounds like iu's incoming class will be the highest ranked class that we've had. it's hard to get excited about iu football, but it looks like coach wilson has the program headed in the right direction. maybe we'll make a bowl game sometime. |

Urban Meyer makes NLOID much more exciting. Hopefully the recent additions haven't scared Ezekiel Elliot off to Mizzou. _________________ RIP DLS.

2013 Texas State Bobcat Recruiting Class:
QB Tyler Jones **
6'2" 195lbs Stephenville, TX - Stephenville HS
3A State Champion, MVP of State Championship game w/ 9TD (5p/4r) and 556 total yds, 3A All-State MVP for 2012
2012: Passed for 43TD, 7INT, 3952yds, 69% completion; Rushed for 26TD, 1000yds
Rated 3* by by 247: #235 overall player in TX, #56 pro style QB in the nation
I'm not one to get too caught up in star rankings, but Jones is criminally underrated by the services. His numbers dwarf those of many of the 3* QBs in this class. This is a special QB and a hell of a get for TXST. He committed early and shut it down when other schools came calling, which is why he doesn't have more offers.
RB Jamel James ***
5'11" 235lbs Katy, TX - Cinco Ranch HS
Also offered by Notre Dame, USC, Florida State, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Washington, W Virginia, AZ State, UH, and TX Tech
James committed to Arkansas in the Spring of his JR year, but left w/ the Petrino scandal. He committed to Notre Dame in July, but Mom wanted him closer to home, and ND continued to recruit other backs, so both sides weren't feeling like there was complete commitment. James decommitted from ND in early Dec and the TXST coaches got him to visit campus two weeks ago. Mom accompanied him on his visit, both loved the campus and team, and James called the coaches to commit as soon as he got home. Make no mistake about it - this is the most talented recruit to ever step foot in San Marcos.
Fun fact: Jamel's cousin is NBA superstar Lebron James and Jamel will wear #23 at TXST.
Rated 4* by ESPN: #30 overall player in TX, #3 RB in TX, #20 RB in the nation
Rated 3* by 247: #91 overall player in TX, #12 RB in TX, #41 RB in the nation
Rated 3* by Rivals: #100 overall player in TX, #9 RB in TX
Rated 3* by Scout: #43 RB in the nation
RB CJ Best ***
5'10" 195lbs Altanta, GA - Macomb HS / Diablo Valley College, CA
Rated 2* by 247: #14 JUCO RB in the nation
Fun fact: CJ's cousin is Detroit Lion RB Jahvid Best
WR Brice Gunter ***
6'3" 190lbs Stephenville, TX - Stephenville HS
3A State Champion, 1st Team State 3A
2012: Caught 88 passes for 1369yds and 18TD
Rated 4* by ESPN: #65 overall player in TX, #13 WR in TX
Rated 3* by 247: #243 overall player in TX
WR Demun Mercer ***
6'2" 190lbs La Marque, TX - La Marque HS
Played QB and WR in HS. Joins his brother, WR Jafus Gaines at TXST. Will get a look as a Wildcat QB as well.
Also offered by SMU and Rice
Rated 3* by ESPN: #132 overall player in TX, #106 ATH in the nation
Rated 3* by 247: #201 overall player in TX

Rated 2* by 247: #15 JUCO OG in the nation
Two years of eligibility remaining
OT Jackson Hoskins **
6'5" 290 Dripping Springs, TX - Dripping Springs HS
Rated 3* by ESPN: #233 overall player in TX, #99 OG in the nation (no idea why ESPN has him as an OG instead of OT)
Rated 3* by 247: #230 overall player in TX, #99 OT in the nation

Expectations are high this year 8 will be okay (if there are no blowouts) but most expect 9 or 10. He was somewhat given a pass last year because of the injury situation (11 starters + 4 key contributors).
I could see a situation where if he is in the 6-7 range this year he gets fired and Wilcox gets promoted. Hard to tell though, the defense improved leaps an bounds last year but the offense really struggled after the injury bug too its toll. _________________

A year ago, after hiring a 24 year old kid as their OC....the University of Utah decided that he may need some help....(YA THINK!)...so they announced that they are bringing in Dennis Erickson as their Co-OC. |

Not sure the state of Utah can handle the new demand on scotch. Hopefully local stores can stock up. _________________

I'm just happy the Utes have a real OC.....
As a side bonus, I think our old OC(still co-OC) is now old enough to go buy Coach Erickson's scotch....but still doesn’t have 4 years of total coaching experience(at any level). |

welp, 4 more schollies just opened up in tuscaloosa!
Quote: | Three University of Alabama football players admitted to attacking a student and knocking him unconscious during an early morning robbery on the University of Alabama campus on Monday.
According to arrest warrants, D.J. Pettway, Eddie Williams and Tyler Hayes punched a student's head and face and kicked him in the ribs and back area.
Williams and Hayes admitted to the attack, which caused cuts to the victim's face, a mild concussion and severe swelling, according to the warrants.
The player said that they stole the victim's backpack, which contained his Apple laptop computer.
In a second robbery, Williams admitted to police that he punched a student's head a face while Pettway and Hayes stood by and watched. He said that he stole the student's wallet and later used his student identification card to buy snacks from a vending machine in the football player's dorm.
A fourth player, running back Brent Calloway, 20, was also charged with fraudulent use of a credit card. Hayes, 18, was charged with two counts of third-degree robbery. Pettway, 20, was charged with second-degree robbery, while Williams, 20, was second-degree robbery and fraudulent use of a credit card.
The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office booked the four football players on the felony charges early Tuesday morning.
It was the second trip to jail for Williams this week. Tuscaloosa police charged him with carrying a pistol without a license on Sunday. Details about that case will be released soon, a TPD spokesman said this morning.
The University of Alabama Police Department posted information about the two robberies that were reported Monday. |
that's a lot of fulmer cup points in one day! |

Smart enough to remain academically eligible at Alabama, but not smart enough to invoke their right to remain silent and ask for legal representation. |

Adam Kramer @KegsnEggs
Alabama, going for the BCS, recruiting and Fulmer Cup title in one year. Clean sweep.
Andy Staples @Andy_Staples
RT @tyduffy: I think it’s an Alabama rule that if you are going to commit a crime, take a few underperforming upperclassmen with you.

B1G to play 9-10 conference games...and no FCS teams OOC. Kinda wish that the P12 could feasibly expand to 16 (Pac 8 + eastern teams) and do the same. I am 0% interested in watching any P12 team play against crap OOC teams.
Of course, B1G is probably doing this with a re-structured TV deal in mind...but still. _________________ www.TheLiquidPlayground.com

well, i guess that's why ol' johnny football hasn't been seen in college station lately:
Quote: | Johnny Manziel has become the big man off campus.
The Texas A&M quarterback and Heisman winner said Monday night at the Davey O'Brien Award reception that all of his classes for this semester are online, though Texas A&M spokesman Brad Marquardt refused to confirm or deny Manziel's schedule in a phone call with USA TODAY Sports.
Manziel also told reporters at the reception that he's only on campus once every month.
Though the arrangement might seem odd, Manziel is well within his rights to tackle his course load online. He even tried to take an English course on campus this semester but had to drop it when his peers' requests for photos and autographs became too much.
"I didn't think anything of it, and it kind of turned into a little more of a big deal than I thought," Manziel said, according to The Associated Press.
Manziel's various outings since winning the Heisman -- sitting courtside at NBA games, attending the Super Bowl and being photographed at Mardi Gras -- have been well documented, and being under a microscope has taken a toll on him.
"I know plenty of friends who went down to Mardi Gras to New Orleans and other guys who went to the Super Bowl too," Manziel said. "I was down there with other college football guys too, so I don't know, people like to give me a hard time more than others. There's college kids doing what I'm doing all around the country. People just think I'm going wild with it, when it's not like that." |

my texas state bobcats 2013 schedule has been finalized
sunbelt conf games in bold
8/31 @ southern miss
9/7 prarie view aggy
9/14 open
9/21 @ texas tech
9/28 wyoming
10/5 @ la-lafayette
10/12 la-monroe
10/19 ga state
10/26 south alabama
11/2 @ idaho
11/9 open
11/16 @ arky state
11/23 western ky
11/29 @ troy
pretty solid schedule, imo
usm - won 12 games in 2011 and todd monken is going to bring an exciting offense w/ him from okst. hope we're a step ahead and can catch them before he's had a chance to coach them up.
tech - well, they're tech. they'll be all kinds of fired up w/ their new coach, the returning prodigal son. i'd feel better about a new starting qb if tech didn't churn out qbs left and right w/ the next guy up a junior (rs soph) who's been in the program for 3 years.
wyoming - after some staff and roster turnover, they will have a really good returning qb, their dc for a 2nd year, and some solid returning players. this should be a really good matchup for the program and our biggest home game/tailgate. it's the one i'm really pushing all my friends that only make one game a year to make.
@ la-laf - back to back 9 win seasons and bowl wins. 3rd year for hc mark hudspeth and they return their starting qb.
la-mon - 8 wins last year, bowl loss to 9 win ohio. 4th year for the hc and they return 17 starters, including qb.
@ ark st - back to back 10 win seasons and coming off a bowl win over 11 win #25 kent state. new head coach, former texas longhorn and boise st oc bryan harsin, will have to break in a new qb.
w ky - last home game could be a really good one. back to back 7 win seasons and coming off a bowl game appearance. new hc bobby petrino is a bigtime offensive coach who will also be breaking in a new qb.
@ troy - after 2 down years, troy could be ready to return to 8 and 9 wins like they had from 2006-10 when they went to 4 bowl games. |

jt09, I don't know anything about txsu football, other than it is inappropriate to call it tsu. When do you think Jones and Gunter will get in the lineup? My wife is from Stephenville so her parents may want to come down for a game to watch some Stephenville kids and now that we live in Boerne, its a short drive for us too. |

jgriffith, also inappropriate to call it txsu. txst is the preferred nomenclature.
jones is a huge pleasant surprise for the coaching staff. they liked him when they offered him last spring, but this fall really made their jaws drop. fran has only played one freshman qb in his entire coaching career (stony case at unm), but it wouldn't surprise me if he goes w/ jones and rides him from day one. i don't think ardnt got a fair shake when fran showed up, but that's here nor there at this point. i also don't think delancellotti is all that great, or he'd have beaten out arndt for 2nd spot last year.
gunter is going to have a harder time cracking the lineup, but i wouldn't be surprised to see him play this year. we've got a pretty solid lineup in front of him though: andy erickson and isaiah battle are seniors and our two best wr right now; brandon smith and jafus gaines are sophs who have really played well as freshman and looked so far this spring (only weightroom workouts so far - 1st practice was this morning) and are expected to get plenty of reps.
both guys are ones the coaching staff was holding their breath all season over, hoping that a bigger program didn't come in and steal them w/ the great seasons they had. |

What is txst's official hand sign? And why does every Texas school have a hand sign? _________________ www.TheLiquidPlayground.com
