I'm thinking something to do with guns, but not sure. Interested to see what it is.

Just for the hell of it, if this study is correct E.J., your state is actually the leader when it comes to using online porn.

The white areas contain nothing, no one owns a home there.

And the answer is....... drumroll please........
Green = Greater than 30% free and clear (without mortgage) homeownership rate
Red = Less than 30% free and clear (with mortgage) homeownership rate

It looks like the places with younger people and more expensive real estate have fewer people clear of their mortgages, so it's not too surprising.
This was a gun game.

That's your opinion. I'm a sucker for anything real estate related and found it very enlightening.
I also thought that it correlates fairly closely to 'red counties' and 'blue counties' politically.

...and the economic working centers of America, younger populations, areas of growth, and about a thousand other factors.

Another thing it got me thinking about, is how one of the main reasons thrown around for the recent economic collapse was/is due to the massive number of underwater mortgages and irresponsible loans. In a way this map shows that it isn't exactly a nation-wide problem, and shows where to 'lay the blame'.

As much as I'd like to correlate Republican / rural areas to higher levels of responsibility by owning ones home, I bet this overlays directly on top of housing costs.
It's just a lot easier to own a $60k home than it is $600k. [/super genius]

I agree with Wakebrad. Additionally there are too many areas where no data was displayed which leads me to believe the data is suspect to begin with. Not to mention the rural areas also contain a lot of homes that are passed down generationally.
I would be MUCH more interested in seeing one of these graphs that shows mortgage default rates or home equity overlaid on top of the metric that this image measures.
