So I have been doing mexican backrolls forever. They are fairly dialed in as far as going big, and landing them consistently. BUT I'm not a huge fan of the mexican style. I'm even less of a fan of the reverse cart-wheel style. I want to do more of a tucked barrel roll like the fist trick this guy does:

Does anyone have any experience doing both mexican and this barrel roll style that could shed some light on how to do this? To me, it looks like a complete different trick and is initiated completely different.
Thanks |

looked like just a really mexican backroll to me. Just instead of opening your shoulders at the top of the wake close them to the boat really hard and let it float around |

The regular backroll is something I throw 20 times a weekend. Its initiated by looking both back and up, like your stargazing at something up and behind your back shoulder.
How do you initiate your Mexiroll? _________________ My Facebook

Hmm, I just youtubed Mexican back roll. I thought what I did was Mexican. I initiate it like a typical back roll, but half way through the roll, my body is more layed out upside down, chest facing up. Almost like an s-bend rotating the opposite direction, but more invert than raley. Does that make sense? In your backroll, if your board drifted back in your most inverted position, that's what I've got.
I guess it is a Mexican roll I'm after. So, just maybe turning my trailing shoulder back and letting go with that same hand a bit sooner might make it more Mexican? |

Haha now I'm confuzzled! Post a video of your whatever-style roll! Sorry no input on how-to mexican rolls, as I think they're ugly. _________________ FlyZone Wakeboarding Costa Rica |

for me its all about what i do with my eyes and head. where your head and eyes go your body usually follows. so instead of looking over the top of your lead shoulder to initiate the roll, force your head down and look through your lead armpit, let go with your back hand and line your shoulders up with the the path of the boat like you would for a tantrum, then just let it float around.
being able to do this will really help you when you want to take your backroll to a roll to blind |

Exatly this. I have a super Mexican roll and this is exactly what I do. For whatever reason I just learned this way and it's a hard habit to break. |

Even though the style is bashed, I like the mexican style more. Seems like it will be easier to grab and add other variation since it is more tucked. The weather just turned in Utah. Looks like it will be spring until I try to change it up. |
