I recent;y started wakeboarding the summer before last as a means to keep me occupied between snowboard seasons. Since then I've fallen in love with wakeboarding, and at the same time got a job in Boston. The only way I can wakeboard is to drive 2- hours home to ride with friends on the weekends, however I don't always have the weekends off. Due to not being able to ride consistently I feel as if progressing is a "two step forward, one step back" sort of deal.

My problem is I'd like to wakeboard a lot more and progress rather than riding once and a while. I can't afford a boat, and I've looked for pulls in the are and have found none.

Does anybody have any advice as to what I can do to stay (mentally and physically) in shape for wakeboarding while I'm in the city?

Also, do you think skateboarding when I can't wakeboard makes for a weird transition when I do wakeboard?

Zoltan8, That's a tough one. have you tried to get a hold of other riders in the area who might be able to offer a pull? Is winching an option?


Outside of actually riding, you're best bet is to just stay in shape. Go to the gym, stretch regularly. It'll prevent injury on the water and will make sure you can make the most of your little time out on the water.


If anything, skateboarding might actually help a little but it's not going to be much other than keeping you in shape/maybe a little bit with your balance. For me it's all the same feeling, something about standing sideways on a board just makes me happy. Have you looked in to wakeskating? Skateboard skills will definitely transfer over to that.

I'd recommend trying out a GoofBoard. They are a new balance board like an Indoboard but designed specifically for basically any board/surf sport. We use them in the shop all the time and they really help you to learn balance and control as well as build up core strength. There are tons of things you can do on them and it will help during transition periods between seasons.
