After I posted I figured out that the article I linked didn't have any pertinent information not included in your 11/15 post so I deleted mine.

I just read another article saying that it could still happen, but the first race would be in 2013.

The articles I've read lead me to believe the money behind COTA is not getting along with Hellmund who has/had the rights to the F1 race, but doesn't go into much detail about the dispute. Also, the comptroller has pulled $25 million in State funding to F1 to be paid 1 year before the race. The $25 million shouldn't be a deal killer considering the money involved in building the track.

Edit: I mean I would think the investors would pony up the $25 million due to F1 to keep the deal together.

ohsix, from what i've read, i think you are on the right track re: hellmund / cota having some fractures between them. when i get home, i'll post the videos to hellmund's pc 2 weeks ago that basically says exactly that, w/ no detail into why.

they interviewed ecclestone before the race this weekend, and he didn't seem optimistic. he acknowledged that the groups in austin have a contract with the fia, but it hasn't been signed. he said something along the lines of "apparently they don't have a pen... or any money."

Another article saying that F1 came up with a new contract with unreasonable demands.

STPHNSN23, eccelstone is posturing/playing the media. hellmund had a sweetheart deal from be because of he lifelong relationship (his dad and be have been friends for 60 years). when th and cota had their falling out (for lack of a better term), cota realized that th owns the rights to the f1 race (and the 3 or 4 other races scheduled), not cota. cota went to be and asked that the rights be granted to them, so be sent them a contract for the race, but at a MUCH higher rate. be wasn't going to let cota cut th out of the deal w/o it hurting.

so yes, cota has a contract, but it's not anywhere near the same as the original. and actually, cota sent a counteroffer to be - which he pretty much laughed at.

Any local Austin intel on the how far ahead or behind they are in the completion with all the delays?

It would be nice to have everything done and have a quality stop on the F1 schedule for years to come. A redo after Indy is all I ask.

Where is muck to arrange the Abe Froman Sausage Fest in Austin F1 weekend?

appreciate the info.

Austin jammed with a bunch of exotic cars and crazy foreign formula one fans, that is the show I have to see.

Countdown to austin is about to begin with the season starting this weekend down under.

I hope somebody has caught up to Red Bull to make the season a bit more interesting this year.

i'm thinking the championship will be tighter this year since they have banned the exhaust blown diffusers. that's what rb did better than anyone else. hamilton is on the pole for the race. my ferraris are looking pretty slow though.

didn't see the race, but all I could think when I saw the results was what the hell happened. Still need to find some articles or video that makes sense of the results.

the race was red flagged because it was pouring. once it quit raining, some teams picked a better time to switch to inters from the full wets. hamilton had a crappy stop, and button had to make an extra stop to fix his front wing. alonso and perez just lucked out with making their stops at the right times and had no other issues.

i need to look into tickets for the race. they're super expensive from what i've read. one guy said he could fly to europe and see two races for the cost of getting similar seats in austin.

oh, and look at the pretty red car leading the championship. Cool

I can't wait to see a race at this track. F1, IRL, hell even NeckCar. Gonna be a fun trip when it eventually happens!

A friend picked up our tickets a couple of months ago for $160 I believe for all three days.

I may not be able to make Friday and would be willing to let them go for something reasonable.

I'm pretty excited about it, F1 is the only racing I've ever really followed.

[edit]

Just clicked the link, we got in on the General Admission tickets. Probably going to be a sh*t show to get a good view, but will be a good time I'm sure still.

STPHNSN23, i would think so. they haven't widened any of the roads to the track yet, and that won't happen until after this year's race.

with the way the season is shaping up, they could be crowning the world champion in austin. my dad keeps talking about going down for the race, but i think it's mostly the gin talking. Laughing

i read that traffic was a total cluster fck for the 5k at COTA this weekend. what were there, 10,000 people? i can't imagine what traffic will be like for the race in two weeks with over 100k people.

in f1 news, the season is coming down to the wire. 2 races left. vettel leads alonso by just 10 points. vettel can potentially clinch the championship in austin.

Got our tickets/parking pass as well as our fanvision rentals www.fanvision.com

Anyone ever use one of these before?
Are there IPad apps or anything that accomplish the same thing?
