I'm leaving tomorrow for a week at the lake and im hoping to finally land my first trick.. Ive watched tons of videos on both tantrums and backrolls, i feel like the backrolls edge and pop would be much easier for me, but I think the rotation of the tantrum would be easier. Also, I have practiced a tantrum and whirlybird on a trampoline, but i think its impossible to do a backroll on a trampoline. Is the edge change at the wake for a tantrum difficult? And how much pop will i lose from the edge change? Before the end of the week I need to land one, which would be easier?

Ask 20 people which is easier to learn and you'll probably get 10 that say backside roll and 10 that say tantrum. For me the tantrum was (and is) easier. As far as losing pop when you change edges for a tantrum, you really don't lose any if you do it properly. The roll on the other hand is TOTALLY edge dependent. In my opinion, your technique for a tantrum can be a little sloppy and still work.

But why just learn one? Nail 'em both and post videos. Very Happy

If you have been practicing the tantrum on the trampoline, try that one first. Then, move onto the backroll Smile. It is possible to do a backroll on a trampoline as long as you know how to side flip.

I have personally never attempted a tantrum, but the backroll is not too hard. It's all about loading the line and using a tall position on the approach.

If you haven't practiced a b-roll I'd definetely try the tantrum. Be sure to film like WhackedRampage, said so we can see the excitement when you stick your first!

It all depends on your style on which is easier. I don't do an edge change for a tantrum I just let go with my back hand in the air and then flip. both are really easy. I would say tantrum is easier because you have less of a chance of over-rotating and you can add more stuff to a tantrum in the long run to make it look better.

I learned the Backroll first. But now that I can do both I would say out of all 5 flips I can do the Tantrum was - by far - the easiest to learn. I should have gone for it first I think, but I had a mental block on putting my back to the water first, if that makes any sense.

Best of luck with whichever!

Dusty

A tantrum is like a Backflip on a trampoline but off a wake/kicker.
