A friend posted this on FB today. It definitely speaks for itself, IMO. It is very graphic so consider yourself warned. Personally, I just don't see how anyone can justify abortion.

I think abortion is right and should be done. It's for the good of the baby and should be ok until the baby is born.

Abortion is wrong and should not be allowed to take place. The fetus that is growing is alive. It has a heartbeat just like you and I do. In Texas it is now a law for the doctor to show the mother the sonogram.
The only exception that I can agree with is that is a women has been raped then that women should not be responsible for carring that baby. But, a women knows the risks of getting pregnat with her actions therefore having no right to kill her baby/fetus.

I don't see an issue with abortion lasting the first 2 years after coming out of the womb. I mean, they're basically not human until age 3.

Why? If we're concerned with the fetus' rights, then why is it relevant how the fetus came to be in the womb? The fetus didn't do any of the raping, why should it pay the price? Should a woman be allowed to murder a child that was a product of rape after giving birth?

If you truly believe that a fetus is a person, then why would it matter when the "murder" is done?

Thats only comparassion? Really? A small child and Osama are two extremely different people. He is an adult and is old enough to understand and comprehend the actions that he is doing. A small child is not old enough to know the difference between anything. They are young, unintellegent, and need to be taught.

Why do you consider what you said to be hyperbole and not a valid and realistic argument?

The whole idea that an unborn child should have the chance to continue its life is one of the reasons I don't think abortion is justified even in a rape situation.

How did I know my first comment would begin the argument. I pray ( Laughing ) for the day Okie makes a normal thread that's not so controversial. Perhaps a hot chick thread, or a check out my new grocery getter thread.

There is a difference between a 5 week old embryo and a child living out side the womb, and you all know it. Even you, Okie, and Wakechick.

If there was a building in your city where they were taking 2 year old children, or even 1 month old infants, and killing 3 or 4 every day, I don't think the only course of action you would take would be praying, picketing, posting on wakeboarding forums, and working to stop it politically.

But you KNOW there is a difference. Which is why, because you feel it is wrong, you do the above mentioned things, but you don't storm the offices of every abortion provider in your city with the guns I suspect you might own, or at least have easy access to. which is most likely what we ALL would do if they were killing two year olds.

I think it is wrong as well, but I recognize that it is not the same.

Instead of laws, I would prefer that we ended abortion in our society through education, wide availability of birth control, ending the stigma of teen and unwed pregnancy, adequate social programs to assist low income families with children, and the promotion of adoption as a positive thing.

The thing is, of the five things I listed above, the same group that is so vehemently anti-abortion, also seems to only endorse 1 of those 5 parts of the solution. And we already know that when it comes to things people really want to do.... laws don't stop people, only the CULTURE changes people's desires to do things.

Hell has frozen over... I agree with Camera for once. It burns my ass that the Republicans are so anti abortion and anti birth control / sex education, ani social programs for poor people (young, single unwed mothers are usually also poor if they have no help from home), and want little to no support for the foster system.

It's time to wake up and realize we are not puritans and teen sex happens and happens often. It's time to be more open and talk abut it. It's good that schools teach it. There should be an opt out for the parents that are scared of their kids learning about sex.

goofyboy, Well I know in Texas it is mandatory to be able to graduate high school, you must take a health class...I took this and it does spend a long majority of time talking about teen sex and teen parents. But, if im not mistaken there is a unit that if your parents dont approve of you listening to it you will be given something else to do...

Problem is that they only teach abstinence only sex Ed. Or at least they did for a while in our sometimes ignorant state.

Well said CB. I always find it amusing that the prolifers tend to be prowar and for expansion of military. As well as endorsing capital punishment and anti social benefits. To me it just sounds like they are really confused about their priorities.

cameraboy, I agree with enough of what you are saying to not nitpick the things I don't. I especially agree and support more emphasis on adoption.

On a more serious note, do you think abortion is justified in a rape case? If so, why?

I've never been pregnant as a result of a rape, so I don't think I can really understand what that is like, or pass judgement on the possibility of aborting a fetus resulting from such an experience.

I wouldn't judge someone who did have an abortion as the result of a rape. And I'm not sure what I think about it on an intellectual level. I don't think there should be a law against it within a certain time frame.

The question isn't so much about judging or creating a law as it is about justifying.

I'm curious to see an explanation to justify having the abortion in the case of rape.

same as any other case. it's the woman's body let her decide. if you don't like abortions, don't have one.

just saw this on fb: "keep your rosaries off my ovaries." Laughing
