Ripped apart the iMac last night and installed a Intel 320 series 120gb SSD.

If you have even a modest amount of technical skills, this is a project you can do. I followed the instructions over a iFixIt and they were spot on.

This was an early 08 iMac 20, with the 2.16?ghz Core2. Holy crap this thing FLIES now. HUGE improvement!!!

Thumbs up from Chavez!

jumalian, I actually ordered the ocz before the intel - i literally had it in my hands. Returned it once I saw the firmware was not updatable with OSX. And after reading about 400 reviews, the common theme is that particular sandforce chip has had to have firmware updates over the last several months to address some weird "hang" issues. The home iMac does not run win anything and I have no plans to add it, so I went with the "safer" option. The iMac is from 2008, so its a sata2 unit and wouldn't be able to use the full capability of the ocz unit anyway.

Lastly, the iMac is my wife's main computer, so it was easier to sell her on using an intel drive. She was really nervous about me tearing the iMac up....

scott a, Zero! Laughing

Ifixits directions we actually really, really good. It all went very smooth.

Yeah, I used their site when I replaced the HD on my laptop. But still...extra screws! Whatever, I figure if I drop this thing it's gonna die either way.
