Spent 150.00 + Tax on a new Blue Top Sunday morning so we could rescue our boat from Sneaky Pete's slip. That's all... just griping.

AGM (Absorption Glass Mat) sealed battery technology was originally developed in 1985 for military aircraft where power, weight, safety, and reliability were paramount considerations.

AGM battery technology has continued to develop and offer improvements over other sealed battery technologies. AGM technology has become the next step in the evolution of both starting and deep cycle sealed batteries for marine, RV, and aviation applications. This "next generation" technology delivers increased safety, performance, and service life over all other existing sealed battery types, including gel technology.

In AGM sealed batteries, the acid is absorbed between the plates and immobilized by a very fine fiberglass mat. No silica gel is necessary. This glass mat absorbs and immobilizes the acid while still keeping the acid available to the plates. This allows a fast reaction between acid and plate material.

The AGM battery has an extremely low internal electrical resistance. This, combined with faster acid migration, allows the AGM batteries to deliver and absorb higher rates of amperage than other sealed batteries during discharging and charging. In addition, AGM technology batteries can be charged at normal lead-acid regulated charging voltages, therefore, it is not necessary to recalibrate charging systems or purchase special chargers.

Your Optima is a very nice AGM battery.

The ones I am running are from www.4xspower.com (D3100's)

Yeah it sucks, I've gotta get two Optima's for my new toy. Oooof.

I normally put one red top for high CCA, and then a yellow top for faster recharging when on the water (running stereo, lights, etc)

Any particular reason why you went with the Blues? Just curious.

It's what the boat had in it when I bought it. I thought the blues were more suited to boats, etc...

Anyone on here have any complaints about the Optimas? The Jeep world seems to think the quality has went down over the past couple of years. I have had a Blue top before but it predated the supposable performance decline.

How are you guys storing your batteries? On any vehicle I've stored over the winter I take them out of the vehicle and put into my heated basement on a trickle charger/ battery tender for the entire winter. My batteries always last 5-6 years before I replace them since I feel that is their lifespans. My last red top I bought in 2003 lasted till 2010 when I parted out my tuner car. Money well spent.

Hell no. But I'm familiar with the systems.

I had two red tops that lasted for almost 5 years. Got new ones in my Supra last year. Well since it's gone I need two more now. Damn.

I do like the Blues, I just prefer the strong cranking power of a red top for backup. And the yellow for deep cycle and rechargeability. It's all opinion.

I left the battery in .. on a 750ml trickle, but it stays in the garage. I will say that the guy I bought the boat from stored it outside... that prolly started it on a downward spiral before I ever bought it. I have spent the last year replacing, restoring the boat from it's previous life.

Guys, I'm not knocking optima, but you should check out those xspowerbattery batteries. You can get them at batteries+ I think. I have killed my D3100's for two years now with no issues at all. They still charge super quick, hold a charge like a champ, and run my huge stereo for 5 hours each.

Chattwake, $300 for one battery. That's a tough pill for most to swallow Daddy Warbucks. Laughing

I started using a quick disconnect on my battery, it's really simple and works really well when the boat is stored, I'll post pics later
