LOVE Park (JFK Plaza) was built in the 1960s at the eastern end of Philadelphia's Benjamin Franklin Parkway. In the late 1980s, by an accident of history, young people discovered that the park's curving stairs and ledges were perfect for skateboarding.

LOVE Park became one of the world's most famous skateboard parks. It was the major reason that ESPN's X Games made Philadelphia its home for two years, bringing millions of dollars and international recognition. Tourists came to Philadelphia just to visit LOVE Park.

To young people around the world LOVE Park became as much of a symbol of Philadelphia as the Liberty Bell.

In 2002 the City enforced a skateboarding ban in LOVE Park and renovated the space. Skateboard experts agree that the renovations did not greatly diminish its value as a skate park and say it could be reopened to them with no additional cost to the city.

Other U.S. cities are building skateboarding parks in their centers to attract hip, new residents and young professionals, as part of today's knowledge-based economy. While these cities try to create new downtown attractions, Philadelphia already has one of the world's great skate parks, with existing international fame and prestige.

Philadelphia is considering building skateboard parks in other locations. These parks are necessary for the growing skateboarding community. Yet, LOVE Park is also necessary -- it is the historic anchor of skateboarding in Philadelphia.

It is time to rethink the skateboarding ban in LOVE Park. If Philadelphia returned skateboarding to LOVE Park, it would send the message that it cares about its youth and truly wants to flourish as a world-class city into the next generation!

please give some remembrence to LOVE park
