My last couple of runs I have landed on the crown of the other wake. To me, it looks like I am edging almost all the way to the wake but then letting up just before I hit the wake.
Don't worry about toe side right now, I'll work on that soon
FYI you can watch this in 720p (even though the camera operator was a little shaky )
Yeah you can see it just before you hit the wake, you lose your edge and let the board go flat.
Try not cutting out so far, wait, set yourself up and practice keeping that edge all the way through. Remember to keep the handle low and into your lead hip. _________________ Suck it up and get hardcore!
keep it up. your getting there. Chocoholic gives great advice above. I hit mine for the first time this summer and tried everything to finally clear it. In the end a good rider i sometimes ride with asked "how long is the rope". Hell, i didn't know i just tied it on. I took 1 section out ( 3 feet ) and it made all the difference in the world. Good Luck!!!
i think the distance out is about right, just hold your edge all the way like chocoholic said, then get that dwon, and i think you could stand a little bit taller at the wake

Is it more about "standing tall" or is it more about not absorbing the shock from the wake? I understand that standing up tall will help you do that better, I was just making sure
the proces goess from your cut to where your in the "sitting / squatting position" and then right before the base of hte wake, you start to "stand" the standing part only takes about half a second, and you should have your knees locked or almost to that point, this is to give you more height. check out this topic http://forums.wakeboarder.com/viewtopic.php?t=87228
the first pic shows you what you dont want to be like on the wake, the second and third show what you should be about http://forums.wakeboarder.com/viewtopic.php?t=87228
Just on that note, I would never lock my knees out, you need them to absorb your landing. Your knees are your shock absorbers. Standing tall at the right moment is a case of trial and error, but once you get it right - you'll definitely know.
With the progressive edge, don't be frightened to lean on the line and really get stuck in there. Once you've got all this down, you will be able to clear the wake by just cutting out a couple of meters. Once you've got the distance, then you need to work on going 'upwards'. _________________ Suck it up and get hardcore!
welll, you lock your knees coming off the wake if you want, then after wards you can move you can bend your knes a tad to absorb like you said
I would never suggest EVER locking your knees. That is a great way to gain yourself a trip to the ER for some MCL/ACL surgery. Think of standing tall as the same sort of position you're in when you throw your all into getting high when jumping on a trampoline. It's pretty similar. Although, I will reiterate, locking your knees is a horrible idea at any point in time. I understand what hawkster meant by it. He meant to fully extend your legs, not locking them.
The best way I have ever heard a wake jump described and making sense of the bending your knees and straightening your legs is like this...
When you watch a wave from a boat go past something that is floating, the object raises up as the force of the wave comes to it. This is due to the waves energy that moves those objects up and down as it moves past them. The same concept is true for jumping the wake. if you approach the wake with your knees bent and do not stiffen them up, your body will bend and absorb the energy, making it harder to clear the wake. If you get to the wake and stiffen, but not locking, your knees and body you will use the wakes energy to your advantage causing you to get a lot more air with very little effort.
it's just funny to see EVERY single w2w thread turn into the same thing.. progressive edge and standing tall.. then again, just look at your own vid its so obvious!
I know that for me it was a little difficult to understand this idea of "standing tall" that everyone is talking about. I ended up going up the wake stiff as a statue, which really isn't ideal. Try to think about PUSHING DOWN WITH YOUR LEGS as you straighten your body, kinda like you are jumping on land. You have to time this push right at the moment of takeoff so that the force of the water pushing back against your board will catapult you into the air. Also, make sure your PUSH FROM YOUR BACK LEG, not your front leg. If you stomp on your front foot, you will cartwheel over the nose of the board for a nasty slam! I hope this helps. It won't really help your distance, but it should give you the height you need to get over.
You didnt charge the wake hard enough to start. Edge in harder. I know I know, the progressive edge, but with your wake, you are going to need to generate a stronger edge.
Here are some tips for next season:
When you start your edge, let the boat begin to pull you once you let off your ts edge. Once you feel that, begin to really lean back and charge the wake.
If you are familiar with lifting weights, doing squats in particular, that is how you will need to explode up when you are hitting the wake.
Do some squats this off season (not often if you hate lifting or just do real light weight) and focus on exploding upwards. That is the same force you will be needing to generate.
Keep the rope at your waste, so that you dont get pulled off axis.
I dont post much, so I wont be able to check on your progress too often. It is really simple once you get the timing down... But definitely dont be scared to charge the wake and edge all the way through it _________________
