Saw this on bb.com of all places, their misc forum makes me laugh. It's kind of rare they have a good cause over there but this is pretty cool. A 5 year old with Leukemia is selling his drawings of monsters to raise money for his chemo. I got the vampire.

Quote:
"Aidan is no ordinary 5 year old boy, in fact he is quite extraordinary. What sets him apart from most kids is his love for all things scary. He loves monsters, clowns, drawing, and dressing up. He does not wait for Halloween to roll around to have an excuse to wear a costume. And you better believe while in costume he will break character for nothing.

Another thing that makes Aidan different than most children is that on September 13, 2010 he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) - Wikipedia. He was strong and pulled through his first round of chemo all while teasing his nurses and vistors. Although this was a small victory Aidan, unfortunately, must go through 2 to 3 more years of chemo treatments and everything that goes along with that.

We are all heartbroken that he has to go through everything that goes along with chemo, but as his father, Wylie, has said it is a tragedy that will ultimately be defeated by love. We are confident that after all is said and done Aidan will have his health back, but first we must take this journey through leukemia.

Although, at this point, it has only been one week since we received this terrible news we have come across many generous people and it has humbled us all. The doctors, the nurses, family, and complete strangers have come through with knowledge, understanding, moral support, and even more. We thank everyone for their kindness."

microman - they don't. My brother in law lived in the MD Anderson ICU Cancer unit in Houston, TX for 9 months with NO insurance. He received the best medical treatment money can buy. My sister's bill after he died - $0. I have seen what the medical community can do for people that don't have the means to pay for it.

That said - good for the little guy trying to do something to better his situation.

goofyboy I'm just going by what the blog says. I'm sure they're using this as a distraction/outlet for the kid as well, but he must also be aware of the financial strain put on his family related to his treatment.

Quote:
Through the donations and sale of Aidan’s art, the family has been able to avoid financial ruin. The family had considered the sale of their home, and Aidan’s father began to look for a 2nd job to offset the impact of the additional medical expense.

However, due to the tremendous outpouring of support we have received; the family has been able to offset current medical and loss wage expense. Given the demand for Aidan’s art and the uncertainty that awaits us on the road to curing Aidan from leukemia, we have elected to continue to offer his art for sale. All of the proceeds generated from the sale will still go to Aidan and his family to prepare for future medical expense.

Give me a f$%king break. This isn't a WB.com personal thread. Stupid, ideologically-driven policies have consequences. Apparently this is one of them.
