I had last year's Witness Grind and it was pretty good. The rails started splitting for me after a while but the base was super solid. I'm not sure if they fixed that issue for this year (they have their 'liquid rail' on a few boards but I don't think they put it on the witness) but it's defintely a super durable board and you'll be happy with it if you get it.
I just got a new Watson Hybrid though and it is the most fun board I've ridden. Just enough flex to make rails really fun but it still feels pretty solid on the water.
If you're going to focus on air-tricks (raleys, rolls, etc) while hitting rails, the Witness grind will probably be your best choice since it has molded-in fins. Also, the Witness is great behind a boat.
If you're mostly going to be killin the sliders with a few air tricks thrown in, I'd check out the Watson Hybrid. |

| The Watson Hybrid is pretty much meant for rails/kickers. It's a flex board and it comes with the liquid force grind base and their 'liquid rails' (basically it's built so the board's rails can take more of a beating on sliders than normal boards without splitting). |

Why are you ditching the Witness? It's a GREAT shape and they're durable. The witness has molded fins and gives awesome tracking without a center fin, I loved the ride.
The Watson is a fairly advanced deck, especially if you're riding it without fins (the bottom is fairly flat). It is a TON of fun though if you like a loose deck and some flex for learning presses.
The State won't hold up as well on rails but it's a good beginner board in general and for the most part, regular wakeboards do OK on rails. (Not great, but they'll probably last you a season if you ride hard)
A 135 is definitely at the top of your weight range but you can get away with it if you want to (it'll also give you some time to grow in to it!) |

I ride a 09 LF witness grind 140 and I LOVE it for cable. (Same exact shape as the 2010 just 200 bucks cheaper)
I had a ronix one before that and I was using it at cable and it broke the core in half so you could actually bend the board due to the rails. The witness is holding up pretty well but my edge is starting to split a bit, but that is sort of to be expected abusing it daily at the cable.
In my opinion I would get something like the witness that has molded fins if you are going to be trying any air tricks. The thing about the witness is the molded fins are the perfect size to where you can get a great edge for air tricks, but they are small enough to where you can still do good nose and tail presses on the rails, and the fins do not get caught. And for beginners, they are small enough to do butter slides and what not on the water. Not a bad board behind boat either.
Nothing against the state, I don't know much about it. But I would suggest getting a board that is somewhat made for cable (such as the grind base) because regular boards just get murdered on rails.
And with the size of the board, i'm about 5 10, 150 lbs and I ride a 140 cm board. A lot of people would say that is too big but I think that a bigger board does nothing but helps make the landings softer and give you more surface area giving you better pop off of the wake. So don't be afraid to get something a little bigger. |
