Posted: May 31, 2010 7:26 am Post subject: Stupid, Simple Crowd Pleasing Trick List |
|
|
I'd like to get a bunch of small, possibly easy, "tricks" to add to our runs. We don't get to ride with other people so our stuff is kind of stale and I'd like to freshen it up a bit.
I'd consider these to be valid, dumb, but crowd pleasing tricks and possibly a good starting point for beginners...
- Front or Back Boardslide in Flats
Going far out to the side and powersliding for 10-20 yards and throwing a wall of water
- Surface 180 handle pass in the flats on the side of the boat
Actually tough to do at first if you are not far enough out, but doing a 180 surface slide and passing the handle is somewhat fun.
- Ollie Off Wake on Start
Usually get a big wake when pulling out of the water and a little ollie out to the side of the wake is better than simple edging out imho.
- Surface ollies. Surface ollie 180s
- Wake carve air
Carving on the wake and popping a small air like a 1/4 pipe staying on one side of the wake
- "rail" slides on the top of the wake
Sliding sideways on the top of the wake.
- Double up wake jumping
While a needed skill to have, I think jumping a doubled up wake qualifies here if not pulling a hard trick
- Go around boat on turn
Haven't done this yet, possibly dangerous, but trying to go around the boat on a turn by slingshotting yourself.
I think those are the ones we do mostly, if anyone has any others, I'd like to hear them!

I like backsliding in the cuffed position and long tail presses are always cool too. _________________

Some of those are okay... No frontside boardslide is going be a crowd pleaser, especially if you're a beginner and may lift the handle way high when you get off balance or catch an edge and biff. Backside is a simple one and is definitely a crowd please as long as you lean far enough to get close to the water and put up a solid wall. A surface 180 is definitely not one to go after if you're trying to show off, whether frontside or backside. Ollie off the wake is nothing unless you toss a grab on it, but outside the wake an ollie backside 180 is pretty bomb but only when you cut out hard from the wake and do it way outside with a ton of speed... you get a better push off the water and go really far. The rest are good but don't do the around-the-boat around other boats, only when you're by yourself or have a huuuuge distance to anyone else. You'll look like a jackass, especially if you do it wrong, or even if you do it right and everyone in the boat is fist pumpin' like a champ. |

isuckatwakin, my ollies aren't that huge, but they're getting better all the time.
The key is to cut out hard on your heels and build as much speed as possible. Then flatten out and immediately push down with your back foot then pull up with both feet, trying to get your knees as high as you can. _________________ Hilton Head Wake Sports.com

A well executed Surf Carve looks pretty slick.
Ollie backside 180s (slightly more difficult)
Shifties wake to wake
Frontside boardslide (back to the boat)
Ollie grab oncoming rollers
Ollie BS 180 oncoming rollers
180 butterslide _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

These are all great. I hope to put together a run with these and post the video. All except for the blind invert that is... |

the hang ten is a definite crowd pleaser. its really easy you just have to get used to stepping out of your bindings while ridding and getting your back foot to the nose. You wouldn't think so but you can pretty much just ride out there on the nose.
Then if youre feelin real frisky you can speed up and step off the front and bare foot. lol |

Ill tell you what I like to do that i think looks pretty cool, but isnt too hard... start of beside the wake, toeside edge... ride up it, pop up and land on it in a butterslide... ride it as long as you can... _________________ www.blackwaterrydas.com |

I'm very surprised the infamous FASHION AIR hasn't been mentioned yet (or did I miss it?)! Should be in every set, period (if not just regular then taken to backside 1, 3 or 5). _________________ FlyZone Wakeboarding Costa Rica |

I have found from my experience that nothing entertains the crowd more than a classic faceplant! Lets face it, a part of everyone wants to see it! |
