On my way to work this morning they were talking about this on the radio and I thought it would be a great discussion for wakeboarder.com
Anyway someone called in and said they were dating a girl and they had done EVERYTHING except vaginal sex...yes he put it in her butt. Neither of them had ever had vaginal sex although they did everything else and they wanted to know if they were still considered virgins. So what do you think? From a girls or guys perspective?

Something else they found out from people calling in is that this seems to be becoming more common. A handful of girls said that they had backdoor sex before normal sex so that they could stay virgins for whatever their reasons were. IMO, the girl is still a virgin, she hasn't had her vag worked.
The guy however, is not a virgin.
Here's how I came to the conclusion for the dude.
He got to perform the same function yet with a more awesome hole. If he had eaten a bacon cheeseburger, but never a cheeseburger, I would still consider that he had eaten a cheeseburger. Or, for instance, he drives a tank, but never a normal automobile, he has still driven and infact has driven something more awesome.

The girl it gets a bit more murky. I'd have to ask what her intent was by not having vag sex. If it was for religious purposes (i.e. I am not committing a sin because it's in my butt) then no you are not a virgin. Virgin in religious terms is more about the "sin" of having intercourse outside of marriage. This is not a view that I have personally, but if this is the reason behind only having anal sex, then no she is not a virgin.
If on the other hand she is simply saving her vag for someone down the road or whatever, and not for any religious or moral purpose, then I suppose I would consider her a virgin.

That gap in logic blows my mind. If you're just terrified of getting pregnant and don't trust birth control, that's one thing. Any other rational seems beyond dumb. Virgin is not a medical term. We have also had girls that have had vaginal sex yet only experienced a partial hymenectomy (at some point size actually does matter jk jk it is just an anatomic thing in some women lol) where we have given paps and the girl ended up bleeding from the full hymenectomy. So in the terms that if they still have a hymen, are they still virgins or partial virgins? The question we ask is "have you ever had sexual intercourse?" or "are you sexually active?" This girl has definitely had sexual intercourse and is most definitely sexually active. She still would require a pap at 21 for hpv and cell morphology, in which we would break her hymen with the speculum to open the canal and do the pap, and the bam, no longer a "virgin". HPV along with all other STI's can travel from the anus to the vagina and visa versa without insertion making her still at risk for cervical cancer, and now even greater risk for anocervical fistulas and such. If she said she did it only once, we probably would let it slide, but if she said it is her common practice and she has had multiple partners, any good ob/gyn would fire her as a patient if she did not allow for us to perform the pap only so she could preserve her hymen. That would be the perfect lawsuit. "Gyno avoids doing pap on patient from 21-30 who has developed metastatic cervical cancer because she told the physician she has only participated in anal sex and is still a virgin". She is still at risk for PID which if left untreated can lead to infertility.
