Hope she is ok. That is one brave little girl if you ask me.

Teen sailor missing at sea

Abby Sunderland's family is scrambling to persuade any government with an aircraft in the area to help find the 16-year-old sailor, family spokesman Christian Pinkston told CNN.

The California teen's sailboat was in the Indian Ocean, about 2,000 miles east of Madagascar and 2,000 miles west of Australia, when distress signals started coming from the boat Thursday morning California time, Pinkston said. No one has been able to contact Sunderland since then

Saw this earlier today. Guess she was headed into some big seas and 50-60 knot winds in her last communication. 2 beacons were triggered but not the automatic one on the boat if it capsizes. So hopefully she's still with the boat and/or in the life raft.

Also noted her Brother completed his circumnavigation at 17 and she's attempting replace him as the youngest ever.

Lol, I love how this is just an overblown sibling rivalry. "I can do it a year younger than you did, and you won't be able to change anything about it! *thumbs nose*"

That said, I hope she's alright and that she just has an awesome story for the rest of her life.

Heard about this on the radio on the way into work this morning. A bunch a numb nutz were calling in asking where child services were and how could a parent endanger their childs life like this. One guy even wanted to know if the parents would be paying for the rescue! Rolling Eyes

It really is unfortunate she's already going after her dreams and not sitting in front of a TV playing XBOX and talking smack to her online friends!

I see this girl growing up to achieve great things and hopefully make that trip around the world someday.

I couldn't imagine being by myself in 30 foot waves in the middle of the Indian ocean. They are saying the ship had been knocked on it's side several times and is dragging her sail in the water Shocked

What an adventure though....check out the blog. http://soloround.blogspot.com/

Sounds like the rigging and mast were broken but she's ok. Have to love technology.

Her blog was updated with details this morning. I raced sailboats as a kid so I was the subject peaked my interest.
