I've been reading up on some threads and sites listing songs they listen to and a popular one was a song from a bit ago that I've never played on the boat....

and it made me realize there is a ton of language in this song. It doesn't bother me at all when I listen on my own in the car or room or something, but when other people come into the picture it gets different.

What's everyones opinion of profanity in music out on the lake? What if you're with your kids/crew/family and a boat cruises by blasting something dropping f-bombs. Most my music is pretty clean and I feel songs like on a boat should be kept for just hanging out and not blasting on tower speakers, or if its a pretty secluded area and no one is really around to hear it then its okay to blast.

Thoughts?

Blindside_137, I tend to agree with you. After we got the tower and tower speakers I told the people that come to the lake with me (with a playlist that I usually use) that we could only listen to cleaner music now and they agreed. I definitely am of the opinion that you need to respect the families around you. If I had kids I wouldn't want someone to come by blasting unedited music on the lake. It's a public place, not your car or your home where you are in more of a private setting, and it should be treated as such. Besides, there are plenty of great clean songs that can get you pumped up.

As a father of three that spends a LOT of time at the lake, "Thank You". I wish everyone had the same attitude. Now, if i could just get the damn jet skis to get off my ass when I'm pulling the kids..........

I personally grew up listening to some pretty hard stuff, tons of swearing lots of obscene things... I don't care what people listen to on their own time, however when you make the music loud enough other people can hear it, I think you need to be respectful. Music with profanity or otherwise explicit lyrics don't have a place on the lake unless you're playing it quietly on the inside boat speakers.

I personally don't believe in tower speakers because everyone can hear your music and you're basically forcing them to listen to it. I guess it's not a big deal if your listening to average pop songs that everyone likes though.

jmlloyd, I hear you on the jetski issue. Just got rid of one and absolutely loved riding it but some people either just don't know how to be responsible with one or just don't care. I never did that when I was on the jetski but it seems like every time I'm on the boat and there is a jetski around it seems to stay around for a while. All these issues really boil down to being responsible and giving everyone the respect they deserve. But hey, wouldn't much of the world's issues be resolved if everyone approached things that way..

As a 20 year old who likes a good beat to ride to, I don't care about profanity at all and hardly pay attention to words, just as long as the sounds of the lyrics work with the song and it sounds good. When it plays on the boat with the parents, it's a huge no and I still don't mind.

I think it's a courtesy thing. If there are a lot of boats around with kids, keep it clean. If there is no other boats around, don't worry about it.

I agree with the courtesy thing. I just got tower speakers and I'm learning how far sound can travel. We listen to quite a variety of music and we watch what we listen to anyways since we have kids. I love Metallica and realize not everyone "appreciates" their talent, even though my family likes it. I'm definitely going to watch what I'm playing and have the courtesy for others. I think for the most part when you're boarding and you're buzzing by someone sitting still every so often, it probably isn't that much of an issue. I've never felt like other boats blow us out with their music or offend me when I've been parked.

park a bunch of drunk rednecks or teenie boppers in daddy's boat on the sandbar with you and usually it's a problem, occassionally I'll get hammered drunk and be the annoying person blaring music but that is rare for me, now if you get offended with some More Than Feeling or Don't Stop Believing blaring you can just kiss my arse Laughing

I've always kept it pretty low key around here since it is against the law to drink at the lakes in NE. It's kind of an honor thing though, rangers won't hassle you as long as your not hassling anyone or being reckless. We've always just kept it down to where no one else can really hear it, so I never thought about what we were playing.

Now that we are looking at boats with a whole lot more stereo I'll have to watch my play lists closer. Might just have to listen to the radio, not sure I have any music that isn't offensive in some way lol.

I believe in most states that you can ticketed for playing music with profanity. In my playlist there might be one or two words of profanity but it's very rare and never the "f-bomb".

Most every song now-a-days that has profanity in it has a clean version too. I know makin my playlist this year I downloaded the clean version of whatever song it was as I mostly listen for the beat other than the words and have a 9yr old and 11 year old on the boat too..

I was out the other day and there was NO ONE else around. not even one boat. so it didnt matter what kind of music i was playing because no one was there to hear it. But when its crowded keep it clean. I love blasting music that people would question why i am playing that. Nothing like boarding to some Frank Sinatra.

I just recently purchased a tower and speaker set up. So needless to say I am all about playing it loud...however my parents say they can hear it all the way back at the house when I am blaring it out on the lake...so I can realize that respect needs to be taken under consideration...however i payed a lot of money for the setup so I want to be able to appreciate it as well...so lately i've been trying to keep it at a happy medium...not so loud as you can hear it in somebody's living room but loud enough so the rider can still jam Mr. Green
