I think that is one sweet home made tower!!

What size tubing did you use? and how long did it take, if you don't mind me asking?

I am getting a metalworker my boat buddy knows to hook me up with a tower like that.

May I ask which tower you used to design from? I'm going for the "Pro-Flight Swoop" style which looks pretty similar to the one you have there.

you must have a good going tig welder at your shop there. Nice work well done.

My zero flex flier tower, flexed and broke in 4 places with the weight of speakers, lights and 50 miles of sh1t roads. Had to tig weld it and now it looks crap..

It is made out of 2" Aluminum Tubing 1/8" wall. All of the joints were machined out of 2" Solid Aluminum. It hinges at the rear with Hein (sp?) joints and has a threaded knob at the front. Used the same tubing for the cross members on the sides and on the top. At the connection to the boat I used 1/4" aluminum on the outside then 1" plywood with 1/4 aluminum plate on the inside with 4 button head stainless bolts. All of the joints were machined out of solid aluminum as well as the rope holder on the top. Mocked all of the pieces out of 2x2 then took it a bender and had the inital bends done by them and we tweeked it the last little bit ourselves. Overall cost 1200.00 including material and labour for the guy to do all of the welding and machining.

As far as a desing. I copied the profile of the window and just eyed the rest of it up knowing what it was that I wanted the final to look like.

I polished it up from what it looks like in the pictures then went and had it powder coated black.

I made PVC speaker cans, used stainless u-bolts covered with clear hose to attach them. Drilled a hole for the wires to go through the tower put a disconnect switch on the boat for the speakers.

The whole thing took me about 50-60 man hours.

Where did you purchase the alum tubing and flat stock? I need a section of either for some ski racks for my tower. Thanks.

I apologize for not replying to the requests sooner, but I was on holidays. I will take pictures of the tower the next time that I am at the lake. I actually sold the boat to a friend of mine. I still see the boat so the next time that I am out there I will do it. As far as the connections of the top and bottom. There is a flat bar cut in to the tubing at the back with a hole in it that attaches to the hein joint. Inside of the back upright tube there is a machined pug that is threaded to accept the hein joint. This is welded around and plug welded also. The front has a threaded plug in the top upright and solid round with a hole in it on the bottom piece so that the bolt in the front so that the hold down bolt can pass through the bottom and thread into the top

Wallrat, sorry for the jack, but have you finished the overhaul on the interior of your old boat yet?
