Yup, and word is that Kelly will be making an announcement regarding Masoli's status with the team some time today. The local ESPN radio station is claiming his locker is already cleaned out. _________________ www.TheLiquidPlayground.com

James won't do any time. They say he's eligible for other programs, and jails are over capacity.
Masoli is in court at 12:30. I haven't heard much about this case. But Kelly says he's off the team and loses his scholarship if it's a felony. If misdemeanor, he still has a chance. |

Here are the facts in the James case.

Just heard Kelly's live news conference. James and Beard will be suspended for first game. MASOLI HAS BEEN SUSPENDED FOR THE ENTIRE 2010 SEASON.
I actually expect Kelly to adhere to this suspension after the scrutiny with Blount |

I'm thinking he will because Masoli is eligible to take his redshirt and play in 2011...

all the oregon fans i've seen so far are thinking/hoping masoli transfers. that they don't need him/that kind of guy around. <note: these are younger dudes and fairly reactionary/blustery - grain of salt>
i have no idea/thoughts one way or another, but i do think he's an amazing talent, and that oregon is the best place for his talent set. wise move would be to stay and be the model citizen and go all comeback feel good redemption style when he comes back. him, lmj and seastrunk in the same backfield would be disgusting.
what's the story w/ darron thomas? not familiar w/ him. |

So Masoli straight up lied to the entire staff from the get go about this whole deal, then pleaded guilty in court and all Chip does is tell him to take a redshirt year off? Seriously? If you're not gonna boot him at least take away a year of eligibility. Oh well...
I suppose this could wind up being a career ender for Masoli if Thomas goes BIG like LaMichael James did last year after Blount was suspended. _________________ www.TheLiquidPlayground.com

That's what I thought to. Kinda weird how he kicked a kid off the team for posting crap on facebook, but he lets Masoli come back in a year even though he lied to him. Is it the Ducks who give Masoli a redshirt or does him not playing for a whole year get him the redshirt? _________________ RIP DLS.

that's not kelly's call in the slightest. not even an option.
i also think it's a ridiculous idea. every athlete has 5 years to play 4 seasons. what you do w/ that extra year/season is your business. injury, getting bigger/faster/stronger, study abroad, going to jail for a year...whatever. |

I think it's an even more BS that James isn't getting suspened more. If the jails weren't so crowded(ie he's a football good player) he'd be spending ten days in jail. What does that warrant? A 1 game suspension for beating your girlfriend. While Masoli stole some property from other students and is getting the boot for the entire season(I'll believe that when I see it). Any one else see something wrong here? _________________ RIP DLS.

1. Please take 5 minutes and read the sentencing memorandum. It's very short, but also explains the situation of what happened in detail. As deplorable as his actions were, James didn't "beat up" anybody. Secondly, I know you aren't from around here, but yes, Lane County's jails are notoriously overbooked. It has nothing to do with his stardom and everything to do with the fact that there are worse criminals to lock up then those with harassment charges.
2. Masoli LIED to Kelly, and the rest of the staff. That is why he's been suspended for the year. If he hadn't lied I bet he only would have faced a few game suspension. As far as your thought that Masoli wont really be suspended, I'm not sure where that is grounded. Blount and Masoli are two completely different situations involving two completely different people. Maybe I'll eat my words on this, I don't know, but we have two very capable QB's that can run the offense.
Lets face it, Chip Kelly was in a no-win situation. No matter what disciplinary action he took, he was bound to catch heat for it. It's embarrassing as a student that we've been getting all the media attention for the misconduct of our football program. But it is what it is. _________________ wakeboards

Probably would have been a little wiser before posting. By looking at the charges, that's what I thought happened. I still think a one game suspension is still a little soft. Masoli even being allowed to stay on scholarship and redshirt is still beyond my understanding. _________________ RIP DLS.

Perhaps it was, I can't debate that it wasn't a pretty soft suspension. But even so, no matter what he did some people will think he should have done more, and some think he should have done less.
Honestly the whole Masoli thing is beyond my comprehension entirely, WTF was he thinking? I wouldn't have been too upset if he was given the boot, as I think that would have sent a powerful message to the entire program. (Although suspending your star player for a year is still a pretty big statement, and hopefully Kelly follows through on that.) But what happens if Thomas blows up like James did this year, will we even want Masoli back in '11? _________________ wakeboards

Masoli won't be back.
Unbelievably stupid.

How many 5'8" QBs you see in the NFL?
Guy is perfect for running Oregon's offense and damn talented athletically, but there is no way he would sniff being a high draft pick. |

haha... I was waiting for that. Huge difference though. Every team is going to have their problems. The difference here is that he won't be kicked off the team, let back on the team, kicked back off the team and then let back on the team. Also, one issue is a lot different than the current UO train wreck. |

You're working from one data point and trying to claim that as the norm.
I think they should string Peterson up, it's painfully obvious that he doesn't have control over his players. _________________ wakeboards

Bellotti has resigned as Oregons AD. Does this have anything to do with all the off the field troubles?

Thanks all for the well wishes. So far shorty is versed in 3-4, 4-3 schemes and cover 1,2, and three. Next week we'll cover some of the classics like Buddy Ball, Pittsburgh's Steel Curtain and the Purple People eaters.
Been pretty nutso busy at work and have had to limit my social time.
I'm pretty damn happy about the income class, but our current players are taking a beating. We're down another DE as Everette Thompson blew up his achillies earlier this week. The rest of the D is going to have to step up big to help the line. That or the offense is just going to have to keep scoring.
Looking forward to spring ball starting in a week and a half and hope we don't suffer any injuries. It'll be interesting to see our three true freshman get into the mix since they have already enrolled.
I'd love to talk about Oregon's woes, but it looks like it's been covered. That and I don't beleive they should be counted out like many are saying. They are still deep in talent and run a very deceptive offense, they may lose Mastoli's flare but if they can still execute, they're going to win a lot of games.
Is it September yet? _________________
