She is going to get put into the wall, a lot. What a freaking joke. Does she honestly think she has a chance of not sucking so bad in a stock car? She is going into a series of red necks that would salivate at the opportunity to put her into the wall days of thunder style.

I don't think it's a matter of how well she thinks she can perform, I think it's a matter of how big the check is going to be from America's most watched sport and the endorsements to follow.

If she get's put into the wall it will garner more attention and more $$.

She will definitely sell some t-shirts that's for sure. Women NASCAR fans now have one of their own to root for Laughing. The thing is NASCAR chicks are tough and might not like Danica because she is a "pretty girl". Regardless, it's a joke and now that she is racing a stock car instead of her Indy car on a rich team, she will never even break the middle of the pack.

Canucked, just like baseball. Turn on the game/race, either fall asleep in the couch or go do something else for 2 hours, then come back and catch the last 2 innings/20 laps. Laughing

That's not how Nascar is anymore. They took a boring motorsport and added so many rules its insanely boring now.

DRAGON88, understood but in NH people question it all the time... I'm surrounded by RedNecks with Stewart - Dale Jr. - Kahne stickers on their trucks.
Of course these are the same people that don't even know who Michael Shumacher - Alain Prost or Ayrton Senna are.

For me it's moto GP and then everything else........LOL......

Rossi - tha doctor!!
Stoner
Pedrosa

Are gods to me..... But I digress

I would be willing to bet the top few drivers in Nascar could be competitive in most other series out there including F1. You're really discounting the talent level that is in Nascar if you think otherwise.

I've been to Bristol and Atlanta. Bristol was awesome because I was in a team skybox with free food and free liquor. Atlanta I was stuck in the general population, and it was like being in prison. It was horrible. What blew my mind was that you can bring whatever you want into a nascar race. The guys in front of me at Atlanta had a cooler with nothing in it but budweiser tall boys and pints of jim beam. There was zero security. You could bring a grenade launcher into the stadium and no one would stop you.

Oh, and the noise. It was deafening WITH earplugs in. I had a headache for two days.

Define competitive.

In F1, maybe. In WRC I doubt it.

How about 1 second off the winning time for Monaco Grand Prix?
http://www.nascar.com/2003/news/headlines/wc/06/12/jgordon_montoya/index.html

Nascar drivers are as precise as F1 or Rally, except in an oversized, overweight vehicle.

F1 is boring as it gets, the coverage blows.

Rally is a completely different discipline than what the other series would be. Saying that, I think the guys that came up on dirt could legitimately compete in Rally after some period of time. I think that would likely be the toughest crossover, but on the flip side I don't think a Rally driver would be able to walk right into Nascar and be anywhere near competitive either.

I've never understood the obsession with F1. It has become a technical sport where the driving isn't nearly as important as who is backing your operations. I'm not a big Nascar fan by any means, but I would much rather watch it than an F1 race.

i would love to see gordon or johnson make the transition to open wheel racing, specifically formula 1. we've seen people come from real racing to nascar. i'd like to see some of the better drivers in nascar go the other way. maybe when johnson wins his 4th in a row, he'll look for a new challenge? probably not with the pay cut that would entail...

I always find this kind of comment amusing. F1 (to me) is one of the least representative forms of real racing. It has become almost entirely a technological form of racing where manufactures with the most money are rewarded with the best finishes. It would seem to me Nascar would be closer to real racing as the drivers dictate the outcome more than the cars or the depth of the manufacturers pockets.

How many drivers have converted to Nascar and done well with it? There have been guys from open wheel, road racing, etc. cross over and very few have demonstrated any success at it.

I was under the impression that the top F1 guys were paid as well as or better than most Nascar guys from their teams. I don't know where endorsements fall into the grand total, but just payroll seemed to be that way from what I remember.

Three words: Juan Pablo Montoya. Dude destroyed (literally won like every race) the CART series his rookie year; he picked up NASCAR extremely quickly (despite no stock car experience), will be a force in coming years and is, by far, the best pure driver out there. In the middle of CART and NASCAR, though, he was a very average F1 driver, despite being on really good teams. Granted, his limited success is largely due to the BS team order in F1 where they don't want the #2 team driver to finish ahead of the #1. Not to mention, he was almost too good of a driver for his own good trying to make impossible passes in delicate paper mache missles. He usually either crashed or won. All that said, if Montoya couldn't transition into F1 smoothly, no way a white bread lifetime stock car driver would. Other than Gordon, Stewart, or Johnson, I would be shocked if a NASCAR driver could last 2 weeks in F1.

That's my point. The top level guys from Nascar could go be competitive. Stewart and Johnson have success outside of Nascar already. I would go a step further and say other than the elite drivers in any of these series, no one would be able to cross over and succeed immediately. The learning curves are rather steep in all of the series and most drivers don't get a long enough leash before they get pulled for someone else. You talk about JPM, but look at the long list of CART, Indy, IMSA, etc. drivers that have come to Nascar and been complete busts.

Another reason why I don't understand people's fascination with F1. It's a manufacturers sport and the drivers are just pawns in the game.

the good ones are. Wink jimmie johnson wouldn't be an upper echelon driver in f1. and kobalt tools surely wouldn't pay him to be their spokesman if he's racing in a series that very few tool-buying 'mericans watch.

all kidding aside, i enjoy watching most forms of racing, and i recognize that the different series require different skillsets. each one is marketed toward a different demographic. i'd love to see gordon, stewart, and johnson race in a series against jenson button, alonso, and rubens barichello and the best from wrc, alms and the others, but it's not going to happen. the best i can hope for is for one of those nascar guys to get bored with it and want to drive a real car for a while.

Jimmy Johnson,Jeff Gordon and Kyle Busch would all be very competative in WRC,F1 or any 4 wheeled series they would decide to race in! Juan Pablo Montoya is the only succsessful driver to come over from Open wheel in general! As good as he has done it still took him two years to get competative on anything other than the road courses! Every other open wheel guy has been an also ran! Danicka is barely competative now in Indy cars, she won't even be close in Nascar! She will wreck alot all by herself!

Completely disagree. A few points, the first being that rally isn't always gravel or dirt. It takes a mastery of many conditions in order to be competitive in the WRC. Furthermore, the technique from driving on a circuit on smooth tarmac doesn't really cross over. Even successful circuit racers such as Stéphane Sarrazin struggled on the tarmac rallys that he drove with the Subaru World Rally Team.

Rally is such a drastic change from stock car racing that I really can't see any of the current Nascar drivers excelling at it. The two are not really comparable in any sense of the word. I really think that rallying is something that you need to start doing at a young age to really be super competitive. I actually can't even think of a driver who transitioned from normal circuit car racing into rally and had a successful career.

As far as F1 goes, I think the money and amazing technology is what makes it amazing to watch. I guess that's why I also love LeMans type endurance racing as well, I love the LMP1 cars.
