after i took a deposit on my boat, i gave a guy a deposit for a 99 bayliner 2050 that needs a motor. i will be picking it up for 1500, i figure i can put another 2k into it and have a nice boat (comparatively speaking) does any one on here ride behind one? any tips for the wake? and just for the boat in general?

This could be a good move...
So what's the deal with the engine - Repairable or literally NO engine thus requiring a new one?

Should make a good boat. I'm curious abou the engine situation too. I have a 1999 Bayliner 1954. I put about 800# of weight in mine and got the wake to form up pretty decent.

they found water in the oil 2 years ago. could be just a bad head gasket, condensation (previous operator seems like a goob, owner just doesnt care any more. oil was clean when i looked) or a cracked block. im hoping that the guy just doesnt know what he was talking about and it is just fine.

you think that the 240hp that it has would be enough to push it sacked out?

I don't see why not, especially if you work to ensure you have your prop pitched properly. I think the 351 in my Supra is around that same HP.

i was thinking of putting a 19p high 5. putting a monster mte, or mt1 tower on it. the dog house cover is missing, so i was thinking of making a sun deck with a walk through to the swim platform. the suspense of it getting delivered is almost unbearable!! any advice on how to weight it for boarding? i was thinking of 400 on each side of the engine, and 600 in the ski locker with a couple 100 pound bricks to level it out.

The in-laws have a 18ft Bayliner that we board behind on occasion and what we've found is that like most other I/O boats it likes more weight in the bow than in the rear or ski locker. It just didn't respond as well as I would've thought to rear weight, it really liked the front being weighted and threw a pretty nice wake.
They also run a 19p Hi-5 prop and I cannot say enough how much the boat improved after they made the switch. They tried dropping to a 19p 3-blade, a few 4 blades, and finally the Hi-5. It's much easier to hold a constant speed and does much better out of the hole.

what does the boat weigh?
my SN2001 weighed 2300 and the 351W pushed out 220 hp and was a rocket.

then yeah, the 5.0 pushing 240 should be fine. most i ever needed in ballast was 900 pounds. made the wake pretty sick. the hull had alot to do with that too though. most of the time i only ran 500 lbs though

i know the hulls are completely different. im thinking if i run 6-800 in the back, and 6-800 in the bow, it would be about perfect. who knows. this wake might be way bigger than im used to behind my old "toy"

I'd try to get 60-70% of your weight up toward the front.

kartman, Seems like a good idea but that engine doesn't look too complete to me... isn't it missing rather alot?
Michigan Motorz always seems the most competitive place for new and re-manufactured marine engines...

Brit Rider, all that i would need is a long block. all the covers, manifolds, etc are already in the boat on the bad motor.
i have never heard of them. will check into it. thanks

I've got an 08 Monterey 194fs with the 5.0L MPI. (260hp) When we first bought the boat the dealer knew our intentions for the boat. (Wakeboarding) So right from the get-go we've had a hi-five 19p on it and it really performs well! Super quick hole shot and for a 3300 pound boat it runs 55mph at wide open throttle. As for weight we run about 500lbs up front and 750lbs in front of the rear seat. The most weight we've had in it is 2000#'s ppl and weight and with the 5.0L it pulls out with ease.
Good luck on the boat! Post some pics up when you get it.

Yeah, I think I might have been a little buzzed when I posted that... I thought it was stangkilla asking about the tower on kartman's boat (the pic in the first post).

now that it is staring to rain, i decided to put up my "tent" over my project. after that, i decided to pull the out drive off so i can pull the engine out this weekend. talk about simple. drop outdrive all the way, drain oil, pull off rams, put in forward, take off 6 bolts, and remove.

Brit Rider, im going to be building a 350 cui engine (got a smokin deal on a marine block) rather than the 305, new floor, new carpet, wrap around seating, tower, and a 20p high five prop, i might have my brother paint it, or have my buddy wrap it, a complete system, extended swim platform. i would like to get rid of the roller trailer and get a bunk trailer thats duel axle with brakes. already bought a new tow pig for the wife to drive. its a 2002 mercury mountaineer with the 4.6 v8 mustang gt motor. i dont think that our CRAPPY neon will do the job speaking of that, any one want to buy a car for CHEAP??
