does anyone have 20" wheels on their boat trailer. and if so how does it ride. I was looking at some 18's but they shop had some 20's for about the same price. I meassured the height of my wheels now and found some 20's with low pro's at the same hieght. should I go with 20 or 18" wheels.
whats ya'll opinions

My opinion that putting 20's or any other type of rims on a boat trailer is about as useful as a $hit flavored lollipop. But, hey if you want it to look flashy as it sits in the parking lot go for it, we all need to get some attention somehow.

| I say do it... I'll definitely hold you in higher regard if I see your boat sitting there on 20's.

20's could look cool, but you really should talk to a shop about it. Boat trailers don't have car suspension, I think a lot of the reason they have such thick tires is to absorb more shock. Remember, a boat on a trailer does not work the same as a car with a unibody, or a more solid (and altogether attached) frame.
By all means it's your boat, do what you want. I'm a strong believer in the saying "to each their own," so don't listen to everyone else. Even though I kind of agree it's probably not the best move, try calling up a trailer manufacturer first

20's might ride a bit harsh? Put 18's on my last trailer and it towed fine...go for it!

I think that putting bigger wheels on a trailer looks cool! Just remember a couple of things, trailer wheels and tires take a different kind of abuse. The process of turning sharp side loads the wheel a ton, the reduced sidewalls also do not respond well to curbs and pot holes. IMO

18's are about the biggest you'd wanna go. Sidewall is the biggest point, and skinny99 said it well.
My trailer came with 18's stock from Boatmate.

stxr racer: Did you have any problem with your wheel bearing hubs and finding a wheels to fit around it.

| X30rider No problems, purchased the wheels off a reputable dealer who made sure the size and offset etc were all good for the hubs. Post up some pics when you have your new rims on the tralier.

I stick with the 18's. I've had them on all my boatmate trailers. I've only cut one tire.

I'm big into bass boats/fishing and its pretty common. Not sure if the weight makes a huge different or not. Most people do 20's. I think it looks sick. Most people say they don't notice a difference at all when towing, some even say it pulls better

the chrome ones are Foose wheels and the other are some Machined lipped with powdercoated silver centers

I guess I am too old. I can barely understand why folks spend money on rims for cars and now you are spending money on rims for a trailer that ONLY transports a boat from point a to point b and then gets parked somewhere where noone sees it. Oh well. To each their own. I strongly believe that you should spend you own money however you like if it does not infringe on others. Go for it!
PS - You will be increasing your chances of scratching the rims everytime you increase the size. I would stick with 18's as you are less likely to get curb rash on the rims than with the 20's.

X30rider, no on both. The first one looks like a 16 year old ricer's dream wheel for his Honda, and the other ones

Personally, I like the blacked out rims for trailers, plus, they don't show water spots as bad.

| Black wheels look like stuff. If you go for black, why not just buy a set of old steelies from a junkyard? They'll look exactly the same.
