Hi, I'm looking at the 08 Lyman 139 or 143. The 08 Substance 138 or 142 is an option too. I'm 6'1" 190lbs, behind an '07 X-2, and comfortable just doing surface stuff and going for wtw air (no spins/rolls in the immediate future).
Is the Lyman the favorable choice here?
Also, I have really old 143 that feels like a tank, will the Lyman 139 be too small?
Any help is appreciated, thanks! |

I don't think the 139 would be too small. I am 6'2 205 and I ride a 138, although I prefer slightly shorter boards than most. I have heard good things about the Lyman, but if you're considering a Substance I would look at the Watson also. The watson has a spine that runs down the middle of the board which significantly softens landings. It makes a big difference and is worth the extra money IMO. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

I would reccomend the 142 Substance only because I havent ridden the lyman. The Substance is an awesome all around board and very predictable. Whichever one you choose I would reccomend getting the bigger board. _________________ Random Acts Of Dumbness Will Always Be Rewarded. |

| I used to ride the (old but nearly identical) 03 substance 141, now I ride a Lyman 139. The lyman is a little looser, maybe a hair faster, similar pop, and much softer landings. I loved the substance, it just landed a little hard in the flats, and the Lyman just does almost everything a touch better. Great great board. |

Thanks for the replies. Any other thoughts on board size?
I'm leaning toward the 143.
Also, I wear size 12 in just about every shoe, and ordered Shane CT 11-12 bindings. These are my first CTs. Hopefully those will fit. |

I haven't had a chance to ride the Lyman, but I will say that the Substance is one of my favorites, if not my favorite boards I have ever ridden. It is incredibly predictable, easy to butter around on the surface and will give you lots of pop. Based upon what I know about how the Lyman rides, I think the Substance is a better board for someone who is at your level.
Note: I rode the same Substance for 4 years before they discontinued it last year and I needed a new board. I had great durability from it as well. _________________ Keep Austin Weird |

suge, I'm 6'3" 225 and I ride the Lyman 143 with Cab boots. I actually rode the Lyman 139 and loved it but I played it safe and went with the 143 anyway. No regrets. Man, this board is everything I love...loose, fast, super snappy off the wake and nice soft landings. The Substance is a nice board, I've ridden a friend's 138 and liked it. But give me my Lyman any day. _________________ Hilton Head Wake Sports.com

| Same opinion as pretty much everyone else. I rode a Substance the last 4 years. Great board. I learned on it and continued riding it for a long time after progressing a lot since first starting. I now ride a Lyman since the start of this summer. It does everything, but better. If I was making the decision, I'd choose the Lyman hands down. Size is all about preference really. My Lyman is a 135... Substance was a 138. I like the feel of the smaller board way better. |

Wakebrad, really??? Hmmm I rode my brothers 138 faction (I'm 225 6') and it seemed sluggish and rode deep compared to my 141, and even the 141 seems a bit small edging out toeside. _________________
