I just ordered a Launch Pad 540 pound bag and an insanity pylon for my little 18' boat. Totally stoked to get that wake lookin nice!! compared to my old wake which consisted of no weight and no tower or pylon...haha. Just gonna have to play with the weight/prop a little and see how far back to ride. anyone else shreddin behind I/Os?

No way it will hurt. Put it between the bow seats. And check out this thread:

I just got my 800 lbs of fat sac ballast in the mail today... should make my 18' I/O pretty beefy.

I've gotta be careful though, my boat is only rated for 1100 pounds. I hope the girls on the boat don't lie too much about their weight.

congrats on the fatsac! it'll def make a difference.

dont worry about what the boat is rated for. all the manufacturers put those on there to cover themselves. i run a little over 3000 lbs in mine & i know that's not what its rated for.

I ride behind an I/O. And we just got some fat sacs two weeks ago. One 700lb and one 400lb sac. We haven't got to try them out yet but soon the wake should be pretty good.

I'm just a little worried about how the boat will perform with all that extra weight. The most we've had is just five or six people as far as extra weight goes. It's a 22.5 ft Regal. But hopefully we'll get out this weekend. Our lake is up like 11 ft though from all the rain in south Oklahoma.

I had an I/O 18ft and used to run a 600lb sack in the center but more toward the bow. Then I also added on a 400 across the back and more the 600 up. It was kind of slow going with bigger guys but it wasn't too bad. The BIGGEST issue was spped control for us. The sppeds were all over the place, it was very frustrating. Make sure you have a good 5 blade prop.

amen! F-that!
i paid 5 grand for my boat. came with the tower, sacks, 4 blade, adn enough maintance parts for 5 years. with 800 pounds ill put it up against any world class 80k boat out there wake wise, and send them home ashamed. just dont bring many freinds, or try to pick up chics Laughing hahahaha

Haha no kidding.
We've only got a 3 blade prop on ours Sad and I don't know if i could drop another 3 or 400 bucks on a new one right now. so hopefully my 3 blade works alright.

why does a sport as rad (yes rad) as wakeboarding have to cost so much?...I mean look at surfing...it's a killer sport...and all you have to buy is a board and maybe a wetsuit...

LFrider139, It will make a HUGE difference but if I can make a recommendation, order 1 more 550 for the nose. Even though it seems like you would be flattening out the wake by adding weight to the front to match the back, its not the case. You actually make the wake bigger because it really sinks the boat into the water, and you won't have any problem getting on plane or have the boat dolphining all the way down the lake (which might happen with just weight in the back). With the 3 blade, 540 lbs without any weight balancing it out could be an issue.

ilubronix,
thanks for the tip. those bags are pretty cheap on buywake so I'll have to pick up an extra one. our boat says it can only hold like 1350 pounds but we'll just have to see what happens haha. Why would it be an issue though? the 3 blade with 540 lbs. just wonderin

what size engine do you have. i have a 21ft bayliner with 3 blade but i have a 4.3L and with a couple hundred pounds it pulls no problem and thats even without a tower. the tower is coming later. but im curious to see what that small of a boat would do with some weight. im looking to upgrade my prop soon and get some sacs as well. but with alot of people in the boat im impressed with its wake size and shape

I had a 21ft bayliner for two years. I put an 800lb sac in the back (in front of the engine compartment) and a 540 in the bow. Made a huge difference in wake. You might have a little trouble getting the boat on plane if your not balancing the weight between front and back. When I upgraded from a 3 blade to 4 blade prop it made a big difference in holeshot. Which is what you need to plane out faster and get the boarder out of the water without dragging them underwater for too long. I also added a hydrofoil to my stern drive, which helped the boat plane out faster.

I upgraded to a Mastercraft Maristar 230vrs this year decked out with all the options. I love the boat but I have to be honest, I don't ride any better behind this boat then I did my old bayliner. I was kind of hung up on not having a "real wakeboarding boat". But now I know the boat does not make the rider. You are not limited by riding behind an I/O. I was convinced that I was limited by my boat, until my neighbor came out and threw a flip on his first run. I didn't even have a tower and he was just throwing sick tricks.

its only a 3.0 liter mercury engine. we use to put a few sandbags in it last year...plus people..and it didn't have any problem pullin me outta the water. I figured the engine and all that would counter the 540 that I'm puttin in the middle/bow of the boat (ill probably put it in between the driver and passenger seats. its a pretty roomy boat for only 18 foot.
