Went out yesterday the water was about 63deg. I got up first try but after blowing out my knee the last time I went out last year I found that I was scared to even do a 180. Any of you guys had any dealingswith any thing like this. I have a knee brace on the way. I hope that will help my confidence a little.

Um ya. Knees are very complex and scary little things. Ive done the splits now 3 times on a wakeskate. I did it first on a front shuv and I was scared to do them again. I finally started doing them again and I did anouther splits on 1. So now i dont do them. The 3rd split was on a back180 i/o. Im not scared of them but I defiantly dont try to go as big as I used to.

Its all in your head. Just going out and doing the trick will break the barrier. I found that just trying to do something halfway still helped get to the point of landing it.

So try some w2w 180s maybe only into the middle of the wake. and then go all the way.

It's always tough when you've had an injury to ride without the fear of doing something bad to your knee, and I think sometimes that you concentrate so much on not pushing it, that your riding suffers. All you can do is, do as much as you feel comfortable with.

I didn't get hurt doing 180s I took a bad wave on landing and hyper extended my knee sideways! The guy driving the boat cut off the perfict pass and spedd up the boat about 2 mph. Well I didn't know that he did this so when I came in I was going a little faster than I wanted. Moral of the story "Jump ugly land ugly!"

Did you have to get surgery? I'm in the same boat, had to get surgery in Oct. after doing the unhappy trio on my left knee. Severed ACL, partial tears to the MCL and Meniscus. Rehab is just about over with, and I have a brace. I'm itchin to get back out but I know it will be a mind game to deal with.

I'd say, like others are, do what your comfortable with and you will progress. It's going to take time to get over it. Thats what I've been doing with other things I've started to get back into like running, jumping, cycling (which is awesome for recovering). Hope you can get back to old self soon, and even better. I know I'm going to cherish it even more after being down for a while, not even being able to walk for a bit.

Good luck!

haha, yea they would say something like that, but did she give you any kind of a time frame when you could start riding again? Mine said nine months after surgery and physical therapist said eight. I would work out your legs a lot to strengthen it, I probably do weights 1 to 3 times a week. I know it's impossible to never let it happen again but I'm much more aware of it and will do everything possible to prevent that. I don't want a bad knee injury ever again.

My knee is just a hair unstable. The doc said that that was the only draw back i should see. She said if it hurts don't do it! The bad thing is that now my left knee hurts more because I am favoring my hurt right leg.

I've noticed that too, you start using your good leg so much more. One thing that helped me was adding a few workouts just for the injured leg. Single leg press, jumps(plyometrics) ect. It helps to strengthen it a alot quicker and a lot easier to focus on it. Docs definetly right on if it hurts don't do it, though. My Physical Therapist emphisised that a lot.

Don't know if any of this helps ya but I've learned a lot about recoverying from this. I wanted to know and do as much as I could to recovery quickly and safetly. I'm not a doc or anything, but i've been progressing pretty quick so I think I'm doin something right.

Have you done any Physical Therapy or leg workouts?

Good luck in your recovery...

It is mostly psychological when you avoid doing the same things. I broke my kneecap in half a few years ago in an ice hockey game, and when I was finally back on the ice, I was so tentative I was probably borderline hurting something else for trying to compensate for the knee.

Doc said play like I did before, but its hard to get over that fear. It just felt different to me.

I don't excercise on perpous. But at work I have to walk gas lines out in the woods, up and down hills for a couple of miles, I would think is good enough!
