We've been saying we're going to build a slider for the past 3 spring breaks and finally got around to it this one. It's 20 feet long, which is short, but this will be the first one we hit. Currently, the start of it is above water, but we predict it will be under water by summer. All materials ended up costing around 90 dollars and we still have one more short section of PVC to add to it this summer when we hit it and complete it.

We were going to hit it today, but conditions didn't allow for us to.

Apparently Kyle can't read. The water is currently down, and the start of it will under water in the summer when we hit it.

Chad H, I understand the concept of the slider being out of the water with the water level rising. I also understand that you don't have the most experience with sliders and watching you try and ollie onto the slider might make for the most epic video of all time unless there has been a drastic improvement in your riding since the last videos you posted. As is the reason everyone else wants you take video ASAP.

When we build sliders, we only build them so you have to ollie onto them, about that high, so the kooks on the lake won't try it and get hurt. I am just excited for the video. Hopefully you are sessioning it today. And why do water conditions not allow you to take a slider session? All you have to do is ollie onto it, its not like chop effects that much, and once you are on the slider, it doesn't matter the conditions.

You might want to tear it down and put some fiberon on the top instead of the pvc.

ilubronix,
Water around the slider was fine yesterday, but the water on the main river where the boat we're using to hit it was white capping and honestly would be dumb to travel 5 miles on with a jon boat. We don't have a trailer either.

As for today, the other guy who helped build it has gone back to school and I am too today. So we'll be waiting till summer. Again this was in the original post Rolling Eyes

So you built a slider in March that you do not plan on sessioning until the summer. You insinuated that you planned on hitting it during the summer but you never insinuated that you were not going to hit it until summer started. The whole "we were going to hit it today..." line made it seem that you were going to hit all the way up to and through summer, AND by summertime you expect the slider (which i can almost guarantee will not be there by summer) to be to where you can just ride up onto it. Why did you not hit the slider after you built it? The conditions look fine in your photo and you obviously took a boat out to where you built it, unless you canoed five miles to it, which i highly doubt.
You don't honestly expect that that thing isn't going to get torn down by the time summer starts do you?

ride ons are dangerous for many reasons. Drunk weekend warriors will try to hit em on kneeboards or wakeboards. Couple things will happen people either run into them tearing them up or end up tearing it up after it tears them up.

PVC will crack over time in the sun and with people hitting it cracks even easier.

Ollie on the safest route of rails. It keeps people from wanting to try to hit it and makes you that much more legit.

Also like ilubronix said there high chance its going to be gone by summer. I live on a pretty chill lake and our rails are just part of the scenery no one will messes with them and no one trys to hit em. But on big public lakes with people coming out for the first time who knows what idiots will do

ilubronix,
We drove to a spot right near there, and then canoed from that spot. Like I said, no trailer for jon boat and no truck, means we can't get there with a jon boat.

dirtycracker,
I would be pretty surprised if this one got torn down. We put it to the side of the cove and it's in a cove that isn't traveled by anyone but fisherman, and wakeboarders. Not too many wally's make it out this way.
If it gets torn down, it gets torn down, but like i said, I don't expect it to because the marine police's boat will not fit under the bridge.

20 feet uhm you do realize your going to be on the rail for all of maybe 2 seconds. what you should do is build the exact same thing and flip it around so you atleast have 40 feet and a decline which might last 4 seconds Mr. Green . Why are you being so anal towards ilubpenor, your post isnt that clear and yeah why build something and not hit it till summer?

If your rail even exist by the summer post up some vids.

shaggyboarder,
This is our first rail and a test to see if anyone tears it down. As for building it now, it was spring break and we had time to build it, but not to hit it. The water was down too which helped in the process.

Chad H, looks like fun.

I would hit it now (as in this weekend) if possible. Sliders on public lakes don't stay around very long. I would be amazed if it lasted until summer, regardless of how remote it is.

Wakebrad,
I wish we could, but the boat that works is still winterized and won't be dewinterized till may. Plus both of us who ride are at school 3 hours from home where the slider is. Hopefully it'll last.

Chad H, sounds like a hassle. But really I would try to do it soon unless you want it to to go waste. It's not that difficult to do the bare minimum winterization, just drain and pour some antifreeze into the block.

Ride it till it falls apart. If it falls apart, blow it up on the 4th. Everything is always better when you blow it up.

So he built a rail smaller than you.
So he built it a time you wouldn't.
So he is getting his college education instead of worrying about it's life span.

SO WHAT? He's learning.

Ride on it, learn on it, and improve on it. Have fun doing it.
If it doesn't last, so what, I bet you learned some things while doing it the first time that will make it easier and better the next time.

The badasses sure know how to throw around their e-balls in here don't they? Rolling Eyes

haugy, HELL YES WE DO!!! MY E-BALLS ARE HUUUUUUUGE
but seriously, they had time to build it and then take pics of it. By the looks of the pics, the sun wasn't going down for a while, and they took the John Boat out to build it, SO THEY DID HAVE TIME TO HIT IT, but forgot to pullout their manpons for that treacherous 8 inch ollie. Laughing
All I know is that when we build a rail, I couldn't care if it was freaking midnight when we finished it, that thing was getting shredded at least once.
Here is our rail from the summer the first day we built...and the aftermath....

Learned a lot building this rail though. First thing we learned was 1 piece of Trex Decking is NOT ENOUGH. Makes any sort of backlip variation very tricky as there is pretty much no room for error as I found out here.
Oh, and that rail was approximately 50 feet as was way too short. A good rail needs to be about 70 feet.

everyone else, thanks for the comments, I'm ready to be in the water already. My bindings are on their way back to me from a warranty replacement, so I should at least get to ride here soon. It'll still be may till we get back home to shred though.

ilubronix, but that's you. Me personally, I can hit sliders, but don't know if I would be 100% comfortable ollieing up onto one. I'd probably snag my board and snap something in half. I would rather Chad H be safe than be hardcore.

Maybe these are his first sliders.

haugy,
That's our thoughts on the subject too. We just wanna learn how to hit one with this, we'll later either add on or build another..

m_lesney,
It was 90 bucks. We used:
16 8 foot 2x4's (The posts in the ground are actually 2x4's screwed together. So far so good)
3 8 foot 2x8's
7 pieces of 10 foot 2" PVC.
And then a box or two of screws.

ilubronix is the man. You see that backlip on the up-rail of that rooftop? that takes serious balls, be them e-balls or the real deal. Going backwards like that on an upward slope is mad intimidating, not to mention you have to have a surious ollie to get onto a rail backlip

Chad H, I believe in you man. Here's what you need to remember...

Ollie onto it, even if the upramp is submerged. Weird shi+ can happen between you board and the water if you try and ride up an uprail.

Keep the handle low, below your hips. If you start slipping out, you natural reaction is to raise the handle, but that will make it worse, and you won't be able to put your arms out to protect your face.

Hang onto the handle, it is your friend. If you get into a sketchy situation, it will pull you off the rail into the safety of the cushiony water.

Lastly, you may want to put some skirting on the sides. If your board goes under the rail, there's no way that will end well, either you'll hit an upright or get broken off by the rail, and neither of those are without pain.
