Its almost that time. This is the first year with my inboard and was wondering if I should attempt to winterize my boat? I will be storing it in my garage that is unheated so I will need to follow all the guidelines in the manual.

Has anyone winterized and had issues in the spring or did it go smoothly? I don't mind taking it to the marina and get them to do it but I always like takling things myself first if I can do it.

We have an I/O but we winterize it every year, never had a problem. Easy job to save some money.

The way I did it last year was to remove the intake hose from the thru hull. put it in a bucket of RV antifreeze and run the boat until it is up to running temp (so the thermostat opens up) also be sure to run the shower and heater so the antifreeze gets into every nook and cranny.

I also pumped some antifreeze into the ballast system

Change the oil

you can loosen the belts if you want as well.

It ran good this year so obviously nothing is broken. it cost about $30 instead of $400

With where you are, how cold does it get during the winter. If it very rarly gets to freezing then you do not have to do through as much as say you would if it stayed below freezing all winter. Also ask you dealer what they do.
