It'll help a little. But it will be a more intangible kind of help. You won't go out the next try and be significantly better, because they're just so different. It will help you with your balance and body control though.

Skateboarding like wakebrad said, won't directly help but the muscles you use are similar and skateboarding IMO takes a bit more balls, so then water isn't even scary at all haha.

Really just get a blank skateboard deck, some good truck wheels and bearings, and your basically set for life until you break a deck. It is a fun sport, do it.

Skateboarding helps tremendously for balance. It also makes you 10x more brave on the water, cause when you fall on water it doesn't hurt that much.

If you don't care about trick-boarding (I dont), get a longboard. I do downhill (racing with friends for fun), and it takes a huge amount of balance control. Plus I've fallen at 45mph+ and falling on water is nothing compared to that. Just remember, with skating, you keep most of your weight on your front foot, not your back foot.

Well, I guess it will really help you to start in skateboard, before embarking in wake boarding. You will learn how to improve your balance first which you need very much. So investing $60 for skate board is worthy, beside if you not in water you can still skateboard.
