I've been skatin for 4 years now and its never happened to me, but i can definately say ive had some close calls. slippin and bein able to feel the stress on your leg. just call a quits for the night

Anyone ever just get messed up before?

No big deal really.Doesn't matter what your doing you could still get hurt. Can't walk around with pillows all day.
Best thing to do is enjoy the good times and try not to get down when there bad because life is full of both.
However I do have a set of ankle braces no thicker than a sock that I will use from here on out.I think they cost about $100 and lace up tight. So far I can't tell There even there.
Also I have a set of knee braces I use when wakeboarding.
Thats the extent of my pillows.

i find that injuries come most commonly when im am doing east every try tricks. usually when i try harder stuff i get so focused that i usually land it but once i get comfortable with something i expect it every time and thats when injuries happen. so far this summer i have broken my foot on a reentry shuv and dislocated both of my shoulders on easy wake to wake tricks. the most embarrassing injury i had though was just what you were talking about. i tore my ACL, MCL, and PCL on a fs 180 off of a roller. i missed the rest of the contest season and it took me 18 months to get back to 100%. the bast advice i can give is pay attention to everything you do out there.

grip01,
just a heads up...the current research shows that if you are not injured braces do not reduce the occurance of injury (both ankle and knee). Its the same reason professional football lineman stopped wearing knee braces all the time (college still does, but that's just because noone wants to be the one to take them off there players and then they get randomly get hurt). The brace might just make you feel better/safer, but i just thought it might put your mind at ease.

I'm glad this has been mentioned, I had thought about wearing a brace to prevent injury

Any good tips to avoid that. My buddy just bought a wakeskate and I'm thinking about giving it a try. Any tips would be quite helpful.

cubbies017, Hang on to the handle with both hands and ride in a completely straight line forever...(kidding!).

Really, this is a reasonably rare thing and if you're going to be riding in fear of hurting yourself, you really shouldn't be riding. Wakeboarding and waekskating have inherent risks and you won't be having fun if you're holding yourself back due to fear.

I've been wakeskating since 2003 without major injury (a few cuts and bruises mostly). Don't even think about it and have fun! Cool
