|
|
so last night my boyfriend just bought me the 2008 ronix coy board and the 08' ronix rise bindings. It is a sick setup but i just wanted opinions on that setup. I am 5'3" 113 lbs. The board is a 132. will that be perfect for me? also, are womans boards really different than mens boards or is it just a graphics thing? and one more question... can you explain to me the pros and cons to a closed toe boot. Thanks everyone! |

Hi!
I think the 132 should be a good size for you, but mostly its all about personal preference - how you want the board to feel and how you plan on riding.
As for CT bindings, I've been wondering about the difference too. I've heard a lot of people like them. Try doing some searches for reviews. =) |

I got Rise bindings and LOVE them. They keep your feet nice and warm (when you're riding and the water is only mid-60s) and they're not too difficult to get into. I'm a huge fan of them.
I also have the Coy board and like that as well. Great set up you've got |

I have the 08 Coy setup and don't care much for it. I do like the closed toe Rise bindings...just don't care for the boards feel in the water. Wished I could have demo'd first.
I ride a LF Watson with OT Watson bindings. My toes usually squish forward when I land-never landed hard enough in the CT Rise to see if they would have squished into the toe. I may give the board another shot-but it just doesn't feel as nice as the Watson. |

are the rise bindings heavy? the shane ones i tried weighed a ton,
i want the watson, i am going to get the board hopefully in the next few months, but its not got the bindings on it, so i am looking for some to put on it, but i dont want something that will weigh the board down a whole lot.
(wow watch me highjack the thread...sorry tashi) _________________ Reality is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. |

I think any closed toe binding will be heavier than an OT style. The rise bindings have big metal bulky tie clasps. My OT Watson bindings have some neat little metallic units that fit right into a slot on the boot.
My Watson is getting a bit beat...will eventually have to pick up another one.
Still unsure what to do with this COY setup...I'm trying to push my daughter to give it a try. She is riding an older HL Syn with the green CT Shane bindings. Those bindings are ridged funny on the inside sole and she says it hurts her feet.
I also have liked the old BYERLYs that use the BOA setup...cept I am between sizes. |

my husband's are the white shanes, they really hurt my ankles, but i think they were just too big for me, he loves them (maybe its because our feet are shaped different from theirs) i really like the hinge on my cwbs, i may go with that. so you really like the watson though? i had someone else say a witness was really close to the same ride. have you thought of putting the coy up on ebay? i mean, if neither wants to ride it, you might be able to make your money back. _________________ Reality is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. |

well ill tell you one thing, the ronix rise bindings are heaven on my feet. they are so comfy its ridiculous. i had them heat molded to my feet and they fit like a glove. also, they seem to be light? im not 100% sure about how much heavier they can be than some open toed. Also, i ended up not going with the coy board. I got it in the mail and when i opened it, it was cracked! so i just got my money back and ended up getting the new ronix covin. its a mens board, but i want something really aggressive and the coy reviews just make it seem like its soft. just my opinion tho. go with the rise bindings for sure. _________________ last week, i landed a tootsie roll and a 1080...visually.. |

yeah those are last years models and i have this years models. I have ridden in the exact pair you bought and they are very comfy too. this years rise bindings are a little more stiff. but basically they are the same boot just different design. you will love them a lot! as for the covin. I have this years covin which is all black. im not sure which one you are looking at but last years model is the same design but quite fatter. they slimmed it down for this years. but this covin is very aggressive and fast. Im not exactly used to a board like this so when i edged through the wake as hard as i could, it sent me out into the flats which i havnt really done before, i usually land wake to wake. so when i went out that far, my nose went in and i took a massive chest plant. and i have a bruised rib. haha, so im healing now. but the board is siiiiiiiiiiiiiick. _________________ last week, i landed a tootsie roll and a 1080...visually.. |

i was looking at last years, i am thinking of going with the watson though, this years. ok cool, im glad they are good bindings thanks. thats awesome you are making it to the flats, thats great, sorry you got hurt though. i havent made it wake to wake yet (i started at the end of last season and im not proggressing like i would like to), i almost made it last weekend, but i ate it pretty hard. _________________ Reality is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. |

the watsons are nice, let me know how they feel. yeah i have always just hit the other wake but never any farther. my bf said to edge as hard as i could and edge through the wake, my ass was like a few inches off the water and then bamn! i went flailing like a rag doll. not to mention it is a lot easier to go the distance if you pop ur speed up a little bit. He had me at about 24 mph. so yeah. it was sweet but not sweet. _________________ last week, i landed a tootsie roll and a 1080...visually.. |

yeah i can imagine, my thing is, i know what to do, i just cant do all of it at the same time so i usually eat it pretty hard, i think at this point my fear is getting the best of me at the moment for edging in as hard as i should, but yeah it may be a while on the watson, we have to buy the husband a new board first, but when i get it, for sure i will let you know _________________ Reality is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. |
