Okay, Rodney Mullen does them on rails and pretty much anything he can, and it's a pretty sick trick. I've never seen this done on a wakeskate, but I think it's time (if it hasn't already happened). I'm so going to try that this year. I'll get pics if it goes well.
For those that don't know, the dark slide is when you do a 1/2 kickflip, slide on the griptape and 1/2 kickflip out so that you land on the wheels. |

in skateboarding it's called a dark slide, so I didn't even look at the other post cause it's not spelled the same. I thought it was talking about star wars or something.
I'll check it out |

graphik-- I am the ignorant bum who started the thread "darkside". I don't skateboard, but I had heard of that family of tricks and thought it would be cool if someone did it on a wakeskate. Sorry to confuse you with the name of the post. In my defense, there is quite a bit of discussion in the previous thread about the name. Plus, I've talked to some friends who skateboard and they claim that the term "darkside" isn't completely inaccurate.
The way it was explained to me: "darkside" is more of a family name. If you were actually going to describe a specific trick you would say darkslide though. Jester explains it better in the previous thread. _________________ How do you apologize to a friend for something like that? Flowers would not be enough. |

i dont think it will be long before people start doing them, i wouldnt be suprised if someone is doing them now. guys are already doing nose/tail slides and blunts so it wont be long before darkslides and caspers will be attempted. _________________ Good Times

i could see darkslides in five years possibly i dont think anybody could do them any time soon. ok think of how many people can do a consistet kickflip. ok now think of how many people can do those on a rail. if you thought of anyone that could kickflip on a rail please let me know cuz i wanna see video(sick). just think about doing half a kickflip with a 90 degree turn onto a rail thats pretty tuff but then doing it off would be even harder. and if anyone has time get a piece of sandpaper and a small section of pvc and see how well the two rub together. |

i would think the wakeskates that had the foam, rubber tops or w/e would just stick to pvc like glue |

x2xwakegurlx2x - easy... (kidding)
Dave, no worries, but if you get the chance check out a skate video and see the dark slide. It's pretty impressive. Of if you have Tony Hawk 2(or 3) I think Mullen does them in the intro video.
I never even thought of the the PVC vs rubber thing before. I was actually thinking of doing it on the wake first. Just to get a feel for it. Grip tape will actually slide on metal, but you won't go that far before it grabs. We should start a pool for who the first pro wakeskater is to land one. Not sure who I'd pick. Maybe Byerly or Grubb. Actually I bet Horell will get it before Grubb.
anyway... _________________ 500 up |

How would someone do a casper? You definitely couldn't do it in the water & I'd LOVE to see someone try it on a rail since Rodney doesn't even do that.
I agree that the foam top will probably not slide at all, but you should be able to get the griptape to grind just fine. |

and usually on the concaves the wooden edges lie above the grip tape so it would slide easy as pie.
Also, isn't a darkslide usually done by half kickflipping on then half heelflipping off? Could be wrong...
And you are dreaming about caspering a rail...maybe a funbox though? Although at 20mph its pretty damn hard, and with no trucks to hold your feet on _________________ And if @$$holes could fly, this place would be busier than O'Hare |

i dont think grip tape would slide any more on pvc than foam would. Im also not sure about the concave idea where the grip tape doesnt go over the edge. i dont know about cassetes but last years hyperlite definitely had not enuff concave for this to happen. oh and i didnt mention this in my firs post but how easily do you think your feet can stay on the board. with the combination of water and rocker i think this part of the trick is currently impossible. the only way i think this trick is currently possible is by doing a lipslide on the wake. i dont see why we still have arguements about this there have been like three or four topics regarding this subject. ive personally heard all the arguements and think we should all keep our opinions to ourselves at least till someone has tried the trick. |

It'd be impossible on the wake, how would you flip it back around?
If you can grind on cement with griptape you can definitely do PVC. |

i was watching the snap promo vid and saw someone doing a lipslide and with out coming out of the lipslide did an ollie 180 back into another lipslide and then come out of the lipslide. i figure if someone could do this someone could do a half kickflip out. |

There is a HUGE difference between doing a 180 or even a shuvit on a wake & doing a half kickflip. If you watch Rodney come outta his darkslides it's not just a simple half flip, it ends up more like an inward heelflip, the nose flops over the tail & half heelflips back around. If you think that's something you can bust on a wake feel free to try, but last I saw the wakes don't get to be 41". |

well if you could ollie out of the lipslide/boardslide(butterslide) and kick down with your toe you should be able to get it around and you dont really have to worry about sping 90 degress of the rail(wake) so that makes it easier. i know it would be tough pretty close to impossible i just think this is the only way that seems possible to me. another idea would be like a darkslide 50-50(i dont know what this would be called in skateboarding or if there is even such a trick) but this seems possible to do on a wakeskate and a whole lot easier than a darkslide. i just havent figured out how you would get of the rail yet. |

jibn-it-all You tried it at OWC? C'mon, we need more details than "I busted my face". What happened? How exactly did you bust your face? What part of your face did you bust? What deck were you using for the attempt? Do you have a video of the attempt? Details, we need details.
Ummm... How bad did you really bust your face? I hope not bad. I'd feel pretty stupid if you were in the process of having reconstructive surgery and I was making light of it. _________________ How do you apologize to a friend for something like that? Flowers would not be enough. |
