| Ok, I have searched on the forums but can not seem to get a solid answer. I am planning on attemping an invert the next time I go out. I have never tried one but I figured might as well try it a couple of times before the season ends. I have read that Front Rolls are harder on the body but I also think that the rotation would be better for me since I do not have a Tower (yet) and think I could pull one off faster in the air than a back roll. My question is, what steps need to be taken to ensure that my rotation is solid? Also, is my reasoning sound for a front roll or should I try back first? |

Keep the handle in tight to your hip and keep yourself in a cozy little ball if you're doing it toeside. If you're coming in heelside, I'd strongly recommend a tantrum or backroll. _________________

| So how do you initiate the rotation on the backroll? |

jhmorgan, I agree with QNev, I learned fronts after I had a tower, but have hammered both tants and BR's without one. I deffinetly think one of those are way to go. _________________ www.blackwaterrydas.com |

to initiate a backroll make sure you jump first!!! then right as your board leaves the wake throw your head toward your shoulder as if tryin to hold a phone between your head and shoulder. _________________ http://www.learnwake.com/amember/go.php?r=253&i=l1 |

This is were you are wrong it will be hard to keep a tight rotation for the front cuz you naturally will want to let go with your back hand, this slows the rotation down and most people start to reach with the feet at this point as well. A tower will have "almost" nothing to do with pulling this trick off or not.
The HS back roll is the most basic of inverts for a reason - you can keep two hands on the handle through the entire rotation which in turn helps you rotate faster.
Also you don't need a wake to do a HS back roll. I haven't figured out how to do a front roll with out a wake.
On the TS side of the wake a TS backroll or Scarecrow would be easier than a straight front roll IMO... _________________ PEACE

Yeah, everybody thinks frontrolls would be the easiest to learn, i did when i was learning inverts. But after trying a couple, i found out they were really hard and started working on backrolls, piece of cake. Seriously, to everybody who thinks frontrolls will be the easiest to learn, most likely you're wrong, backrolls, scarecrows, or tantrums are the way to go for first inverts. For the backroll, the wake does all the work, and like J_DOGG said, you can do them without the wake, and that's gotta be saying something. _________________ www.munsonski.com

Your first invert should be a backroll or a tantrum. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

| hii dave.... the trick to the back roll is the handle position! If you keep the handle in tight to your hip the roll is going to be much quicker so you'll have enough time for a set landing! It took me a good summer to finally land one but once i learned to keep the handle in the trick is simple! |

| Like J_DOGG, said, a scarecrow would be easier, but its alot of times better to learn the ts frontroll before the crow. |

It almost certainly leads to better crows to learn front rolls first - I can't do fronts yet but have my 'crows down, but they come out the back quite a lot. I can see that doing fronts helps get the rotation more "over the top" and less round the back. But having said that I found crows pretty easy, whereas I was flaming all my fronts. And it is satisfying just to get a TS invert in the bag. You can work on the form later.
That said HS BR's are definitely an easier first invert IMO. |

| Is it considered a "trip" trick? I was going to give one a shot, and I didn't really undertand how to intiate the rotation from the tutorial. |

| They are, but they don't feel nearly as "trippy" as tantrums to me. You don't need to come off your edge that much to go over the front! |
