I'm going to be purchasing a new computer within the next week or so(2.6 ghz cpu and 4 gigs ram). Should I just get nut up and get vista or get XP Media Center edition? I like the fact that media center works with my 360 and the recording tv option is something i like. If I were to go with Vista which one should I get?
Thanks

I'm planning on getting vista. Everyone will switch eventually. The only real downside I've heard is program compatibility (but I've had a friend test all the programs I'm worried about) and Vista being a memory hog (but that's why I'm getting 4gb).
I like the media center on Vista and I've heard good things from people who have it. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

wakeboarderdave1, it will probably depend on the game. If they are online play I would ask people if they are running Vista and how it does. The only computer game I still play is the old CounterStrike 1.6 for nostalgia purposes. I asked around and it sounds like everyone has run it fine. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

| wakeboarderdave1, I used Cod4 on xp and it workedd really well on Vista. Counterstrike Source works good too. Plus XP doesn't support dx10 which XP does. All games will work fine on Vista. |

Wakebrad, or you could leapfrog Vista altogether and go with Vienna (Windows 7) sometime next year.
Right now, I feel like Microsoft is treating Vista like WindowsME. _________________

chavez, 7 doesn't look all that great to me. We'll see. Maybe I pirate a version of XP media center rather than buying Vista for now. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

I have Vista Premium Home and Vista 64bit running on two computers at home. Vista Home seems fine. However do not touch Vista 64 with a bargepole. Everything runs at a snail's pace (the computer has a monster spec and should be lightning), internet access rarely works at all and when it does runs like dial-up, and I struggle to find a single application that is compatible with it. At the moment I am trying to work out how to uninstall the whole horrible mess and reinstall XP.
A bunch of complete garbage... |

I have Vista Home premium 32bit with 4gbs of RAM and it works like a charm...not a single problem yet. I love it! _________________
