Its been my dream to go to Whistler for years, and this year it might happen. If it does, Ill be going the last week in february. What kind of conditions should I expect?
Im an intermediate/advanced rider. I can do any black or double black around here (Snowshoe for example) and almost all blacks at Copper (only place I have been to out west to compare to). How do the whistler trail ratings compare to Snowshoe or Copper? What areas do you recommend for me to go? I love open pow and glades, dont really like hiking, and dont like surface lifts (actually, Ive never tried one, but they dont seem too cool). So far, the Symphony area and Horstman Glacier appeal to me most. (This is just going by pics and vids)
Lastly, where should I stay and go to eat? I want something close to the slopes or ski in/out near a lift that goes to my kind of terrain (blue/black). Nothing crazy five star expensive, but pretty nice.
Thanks |

WB, it huge, on Blackcomb it takes a gondola ride and 3 lifts to the top. Whistler is the same way. You'll be fine on the terrain, some select double blacks may be a bit much just use your own discretion and don't side slip.
I've stayed at the Marquis several times, nice place with decent access to the Gondola for Blackcomb. I mostly shop at the grocery store and eat in.
Make sure you save enough energy for the last ride down, leg burn kicks in and you'll still have a mile to go. _________________

When, typically, is the best time to go to Whistler?
I'm headed to Jackson over X-Mas, but i'll also be going to Whistler this season as well, just dont really know when to go. |

Conditions in whistler should be pretty good in late february.
But that's just going on past snow fall.
Christmas should be avoided like the plague, it's just too crowded.
For my money the best time to hit Whistler is mid January best conditions and as everyone is broke from christmas and new year the slopes are pretty empty.
For eating I loved the Keg but I couldn't afford to eat there too often while I was there. Garbonzo's was always good too. There is a small dinner in Creekside, opposite the petrol station, it was always top notch and the portions were huge, don't think I ever finshed a serving. Other than that domino's is always good.
I was never the biggest fan of symphany, it's good but there are so many great places, on a powder day, blackcomb glacier is awesome but the ride out is a pain, I loved seventh heaven and then peak on whistler.
It's such a great place to ride. You'll love it. |

I'll hopefully be there the week before Christmas, still working on getting a place to stay though. I'm trying to find something relatively cheap for 5 college kids. |
