Ok I need some suggestions/feedback on Home ( renters) & Auto insurance companies from my fellow WB'ers.
Presently I am insured, but Travelers ( aka AAA) has decided to pull out of the Homeowners insurance for the state of FL.
Obviously I'd rather have my home & auto with the same company, but it's not looking good.
Liberty Mutual will write me a rental policy IF I transfer my Auto.
BUT their auto rates for 2 cars is OK.
Ameriprise has a great rate, BUT they won't/don't have Homeowners Policies for FL.

Looks like I'm going to have to split the insurances, but anyone else have any good/bad experiences or could recommend a company?

So far these companies are not writing any policies for HO in FL
Allstate
Ameriprise
State Farm
Nationwide
Travelers

Thanks for any info you good people can offer.

Are you telling me a BIG Insurance company has decided NOT to cover homes in a high risk area?
How can they get away with that. (sarcasm)

So they were perfectly fine sending people monthly premium bills until the BIG one hit and now that they have had to pay out they want to run for the hills..

I'd do the same thing I guess - it's a great business model - only offer coverage to people I know will never need to cash in... easy money.

Sorry for the rant but I couldn't resist. Wakebrad will understand.

Allstate is no longer writing Homeowners policies nor are they allowed to write any new auto policies until they answer to the FL insurance State Board about raising rates.

No AIG either..... the search continues. Mad

Try Grange, much cheaper with much more coverage. They don't run from risk and they don't charge and arm and a leg to write the policies.

PimpinD2, you've been with them for a while so you're safe. It's find someone who will write a new policy.

jdogg, I know you are being sarcastic and all that. however, FL is not as cut and dry as "Easy Money for Big companies".

Most companies are pulling out for good reasons. 1. Premiums paid in by the residents of Florida don't add up to the amount paid out by claims when a major event occurs. 2. The government of Florida will not allow most companies to charge the proper premiums for the risks associated with Florida.

My companie has stopped writting new policies in florida[homeowners/renters], but has allowed previous policies in force to remain. unlike some companies that have pulled out and just dropped/non-re-newed peoples policies.

One statistic i've seen in regards to my company is this. Florida accounts for 49% of all claims paid out, yet only makes up 9% of premiums paid in. those numbers are not completely fair for the other 49 states.

DL8 Good luck with your search. sooner or later all you'll have to choose from is Citizens, and ...Citizens.

Dragonlady8, Call up an independant agent they will be able to help you out. My dad is one in Texas about 4-5 years ago the same happened here and his business tripled in one summer because of it. You won't be able to keep your home and car with the same company but you will have the same agent.

So far for:
Auto- Ameriprise through Amex is untouchable . Problem no renters insurance.
Nationwide - has both working on quotes
Liberty Mutual - Auto $$$$/yr Renters $$$/yr allows dangerous dogs as long a there is no history.
Geico - Auto $$$/ 6mos Renters $$$$ deductibles are lower

J_DOGG, they're still paying the ones they contracted. They're just not accepting new policies. I don't see anything unethical about it.

Dlady, are you sure those companies are not even doing renters policies? There is usually a lot more risk for HO than renters. I thought renters insurance was pretty easy to come by. Maybe not in FL.

Allstate has been great for us. Great service and the cheapest option.

Homeowners/renters policies fall under the same category.
Travelers pulled completely out of the Homeowners/renters insurance dept in FL. No renewals either.
Only Auto via AAA is how I got mine.

http://www.msagroup.com/aboutmsa/ourcompanies.cfm#ngm

We shop and shop and shop for commercial insurance, none of the main companies will touch commercial/industrial contractors--except Safeco and they charge me my first born.
