I have heard the Polarmax first layer are some of the best you can buy. Do any of you guys that ride a bunch have experience with other brands that are as good or better?? I want to buy quality..not a name brand.

UnderArmor works great for me-and not because of the commercials.

Interesting...Is the price reasonable. Sad to say I discounted them because of the "hype"....

Depends on what you get. I wear their full length mock turtleneck long-sleeve shirt and a pair of full length leggings, then I just wear whatever I want over them. Probably looking at $50-60 per item.

Tbonez, I like the UA stuff a lot. Just make sure it is the cold gear.

But, I also like Polarmax as well. My current set is the midweight variety and it suits our Tahoe area climate perfectly. It is also quite a bit less expensive than UA.

Again, UA is great, but I do feel that you pay for that name.

My PolarMax stuff has lasted many years, I have the midweight double layer stuff and I think they were all about $25 a piece

I was in Colorado last winter when an extreme artic blast came through, insanely cold with highs just barely over 0.....I was initially concerned about the midweight stuff but I just ended up wearing 2 pairs of the pants/top baselayers and I was fine.

I like the REI brand. They're reasonably priced and they make a long fit shirt.

Ya, the UA is pricey. I used it for other stuff in the winter too, though, and for spring baseball on chilly days. I get a lot of use out of it and it holds up well so, to me, it is worth the price.
