wow, the boat looks amazing. I wish mine looked like that. defiantly post some pictures of the ballast enclosure. Are you doing an auto ballast system? |

I thought about it... but after reading Phat's DIY thread on it I'm thinking no. I have been considering a semi-auto system with just a pump in the back and linking all the sacks up.. but I'm not sure. |

ontrider, I don't think it would be as hard as you think for just one sac. [things you probably already know] If you had a midship bilge plug you wouldn't even have to drill any holes in the bottom of your boat, you could just pull out of that. Add a pump, an antisiphon valve after the pump. wire the pump to an empty accessory switch. Then for your drain pump you could splice into your bilge pump line for emptying it. [/things you probably already know]
If you can install a tower and LED lights you could plumb a auto ballast system no problem. _________________ wakeboards

Those are things I didn't know. Plumbing is definitely not my forte. Didn't I tell you about my last plumbing massacre? Okay, it wasn't actually that bad and was more of an electrical issue...
But seriously, it wasn't the drilling or anything that scared me about that ballast system, it was trying to fit all the pipes around everywhere and just reading some of the frustration in the thread. I'm sure the V-drive is more difficult in that regard, all worth it in the end though. I will look into things more once I get these last couple projects done.
And be careful what you tell me, because I'll probably come knocking on your door with questions later now that I know you can do this so easily. |

Okay, ballast enclosure done. It came out alright, I'll just be happy to have the weight stashed instead of on the floor. |

ontrider, looks great man. Have you determined whether its legal to have people sit back there? I don't think its legal here to have people sit above the gunwhales of the boat while in motion but I could be wrong. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

Thanks again guys.
Wakebrad, I thought of that before I did it, and it's not that often that we go riding with more than 4 or 5 people in the boat, so I figured use the space. I guess people could always sit at the back on some extra cushions or something, which would be at the same height as the old seat anyway. If it's legal to sit up there while moving, i'm not sure... probably not. But who knows, I hadn't planned on doing it anwyay. |

I would think you could very easily build some sort of bench using 2x10s and cover it with carpet, then some generic cushions.
Edit: well, maybe not. I went back and looked at the original pics, you might be lucky to have 8-10" of room to play with. |

ontrider, THat's pretty impressive. We used toput a few sacs in my buddy's and it wasn't even close to that. The cover is a really clean install also. Nice work. _________________ (insert funny chit here) |

ahhh so just a little narrower than the old xstar/current x1. you said 4-5people usually are in the boat right. how accomadating is it? still enough elbow room? _________________ sing goddess, of the anger of achilles, son of peleus |

I don't usually have more than that.. normally it's like 3 so it's fine. If you have the back seat in still there is plenty of room... without you can still fit 4 comfortably. Next boat I'll definitely go V-drive for the wraparound seating layout, I just don't have the cash to throw into a newer boat right now that I only get to use for 4-5 months a year. |

yah i hear ya ...i work at a marina. even at cost, the new ones are still so damn expensive. we have a 05 xstar and even priced at 40k for me, its still more than i really want to spend.
how deep are the seats ...especially the backseat? are they at least a foot deep? _________________ sing goddess, of the anger of achilles, son of peleus |
