|
|
The picture on the back of the package for instructions doesnt even match the item!
I have labeled on this pic everything and just need to know what goes where.
The SR80 itself has no labels on it at all as to which terminal is for the ignition, main batter, system, battery, ground, etc!

It's been awhile since I installed mine (the SR200), but I think this is how I did it. I didn't diagram this part, but just leave your engine power leads connected as usual and connect your stereo to the other battery.
The "True Ignition Source" should be a 12v power source that is live when the key is on. Some people have used the power lead from the back of the gauges. My isolator was in the back of the boat, so I found the purple wire from the Alternator (tested it to make sure it was live when the key was on and dead when the key was off) and split off of that.
The diagram explains the rest.

| dschock, has it right. That solenoid will close when the ignition is on and allow the "excess" charging ampers from the alternator to flow to the second battery. I'm curious what that unit costs? Any battery switch from car quest or napa will do the same thing, Im just wondering if stinger gets more for them since they market them as an isolator.

I bought it from ebay for about $20 including shipping. There is a ton of them up there.
You are sure that the silver lead on the left is the ignition and the right is the ground.
And the gold lead closest to the silver leads is the main battery, and the farthest is the secondary?
The diagram on the back that told this was for the SR200 unit that is different.
skobi1: I think the isolator is better than a switch because you dont have to switch the isolator back and forth everytime you turn your boat off and want to run the stereo?

Polarity on the triggers and the main posts makes no difference, the small lower posts just heat up a coil inside that activate the contacts on the main posts via an electro magnetc field.
I would not really call that solenoid an isolator, A true isolator will sense battery voltage and direct current flow according to the battery's state of charge. a solenoid just closes contacts and allows the alternator to charge both batterys

pcm2a,
It doesn't matter which is which, as long as the positive leads are on the gold terminals and the 12V True Ignition goes through the lower terminals and is "grounded" to a battery.
